Genomic analysis of a novel high-risk ST5217/ExoU+/O11 clone of carbapenem-resistant OXA-181- and VIM-2-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa in India

open access: yesJournal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance
Objectives: Studies of carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA)-harbouring OXA-48-like carbapenemases are rare. The study aimed to report the emergence and characterization of a novel high-risk clone of CRPA-harbouring OXA-48-like from India ...

A case of carbapenamase production in Shigella flexneri isolated in Ireland, 2025

open access: yesEurosurveillance
Shigella flexneri producing OXA-181 was detected from a patient in Ireland in October 2025. The isolate had a meropenem minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 0.12 mg/L. Carbapenemase production was detected by lateral flow immunoassay.

OXA-48-like carbapenemases in Proteus mirabilis – novel genetic environments and a challenge for detection

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections
OXA-48-like enzymes represent the most frequently detected carbapenemases in Enterobacterales in Western Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. In contrast to other species, the presence of OXA-48-like in Proteus mirabilis leads to an unusually ...

Molecular characterization of multidrug-resistance in Gram-negative bacteria from the Peshawar teaching hospital, Pakistan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Extended-spectrum β-lactamases, carbapenemases, 16S rRNA methylases conferring pan-drug aminoglycoside resistance and colistin resistance were investigated among Gram-negative bacteria recovered from clinical samples (infections) from 200 individuals ...

Genomic analyses of Escherichia coli ST410 harbouring the blaOXA-181 carbapenemase gene from companion animals and humans in Switzerland

open access: yesJournal of Applied Microbiology
Abstract Aims To determine the genomic relatedness of E. coli (Ec) sequence type (ST) 410 producing the carbapenemase OXA-181 (ST410-OXA-181), which caused an outbreak in a Swiss companion animal (CA) clinic in 2018 with those isolated from humans between 2017 and 2021 in Switzerland, and to ...

In vitro activity of ceftazidime–avibactam and comparators against OXA-48-like Enterobacterales collected between 2016 and 2020

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Oxacillinases (OXA)-48-like β-lactamases are one of the most common resistance determinants among carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales reported globally. Moreover, there is no standard treatment available against organisms producing OXA-48-like enzymes,

Emergence of multidrug-resistant E. coli ST8346 isolates carrying three distinct plasmids with NDM-5, KPC-2, and OXA-181

open access: yesJournal of Infection and Public Health
Background: E. coli ST8346 is a unique strain associated with the potential carriage of multiple carbapenemases. Three unique E. coli ST8346 isolates were identified, each concurrently harboring multiple carbapenemases, including blaNDM-5, blaKPC-2, and ...
