Leaf cutter ants are considered to be a major pest in the Neotropics, due to the considerable economic losses they cause by cutting large amounts of plant material to cultivate their symbiotic fungus. Their control is mainly achieved through synthetic products with adverse consequences to the environment and human health.

Drying kinetics, structural characteristics and vitamin C retention of dedo-de-moça pepper (Capsicum baccatum) during convective and freeze drying [PDF]
The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the drying process on the vitamin C levels and physical properties of dedo-de-moca pepper. The drying kinetics and the structural properties were determined as a function of moisture content.

In order to elucidate cytogenetical relationships among three Capsicum species, C. chinense, C, frutescens and C.baccatum, intra- and inter-specific hybrids were examined cytologically. In intraspecific hybrids of C.baccatum and C, frutescens, chromosome pairing at MI of PMCS was regular with 12 bivalents, and their pollen stainability was high.
