Effects of caffeic acid phenethyl ester against multi-species cariogenic biofilms
Folia Microbiologica, 2023Dental caries is a biofilm-related disease, widely perceived to be caused by oral ecological imbalance when cariogenic/aciduric bacteria obtain an ecological advantage. Compared with planktonic bacteria, dental plaques are difficult to remove under extracellular polymeric substance protection.

Effects of Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester (CAPE) on Sepsis in Rats
Inflammation, 2008Sepsis is still a major cause of the high mortality rate in the intensive care unit. Many studies have been published about the severity of sepsis, but the cause of mortality in sepsis and multiorgan failure is still obscure. This study investigated the effects of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) particularly on the inflammatory and related ...

Effect of caffeic acid phenethyl ester on gastric acid secretion in vitro
European Journal of Pharmacology, 2005Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), one of the major components of propolis (honeybee resin), has demonstrated a wide spectrum of activities including suppression of eicosanoids by inhibition of cyclooxygenase-1 and cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme activities.

Effects of caffeic acid phenethyl ester on cisplatin ototoxicity.
B-ENT, 2018To report histological and electrophysiological data in rats treated with cisplatin and caffeic acid phenethyl ester. We randomly divided 28 Wistar rats into four groups of seven, to be treated as follows: control (saline), cisplatin, CAPE and cisplatin-CAPE.

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester attenuates indomethacin-induced gastric ulcer in rats
Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology, 2023Gastric ulcer is one of the most frequent gastrointestinal ailments worldwide. Indomethacin, one of the most potent NSAIDs, suffers undesirable ulcerogenic activity. Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) has known health benefits. The current study examined the potential of CAPE to combat indomethacin-induced gastric ulcers in rats.

Radio-Modulatory Potential of Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester: A Therapeutic Perspective
Anti-Cancer Agents in Medicinal Chemistry, 2018Background: Use of natural agents is an upcoming area of research in cancer biology. Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) has received great attention because of its therapeutic potential in various conditions including cancer. It is an active/abundant component of propolis, a honey bee hive product produced by bees using their enzyme-rich digestive ...

Effect of caffeic acid phenethyl ester on corneal neovascularization in rats
Current Eye Research, 2001Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), a biologically active component of propolis from honeybee hives, has potent antiinflammatory and antioxidant properties. We aimed to evaluate the ability of topically applied CAPE in comparison with known steroidal (dexamethasone sodium phosphate) and nonsteroidal (indomethacin) topical agents to reduce corneal ...

The protective role of caffeic acid phenethyl ester against streptomycin ototoxicity
American Journal of Otolaryngology, 2013The aim of this experimental study was to investigate the efficacy of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) in the prevention of streptomycin-induced ototoxicity.Thirty-two adult Wistar albino rats were divided into 4 groups: control (n = 8), streptomycin (n = 8), CAPE (n = 8), and streptomycin + CAPE (n = 8).

The flavanoide caffeic acid phenethyl ester blocks 6-hydroxydopamine-induced neurotoxicity
Neuroscience Letters, 2005Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta. 6-Hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) is specific to dopaminergic neurons in intrastriatal rodent models. It induces neuronal death either via uncoupling mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation resulting in

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester attenuates IgE-induced immediate allergic reaction
Inflammopharmacology, 2012Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is the active component of honey bee propolis extracts. The results of the current study demonstrate that CAPE attenuated immunoglobulin (Ig)E-mediated allergic response in mast cells. Oral administration of CAPE inhibited IgE-mediated passive cutaneous anaphylaxis.
