Increased campesterol synthesis by improving lipid content in engineered Yarrowia lipolytica

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2020
Sterols attract increasing attention due to their important bioactivities. The oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica has large lipid droplets, which provide storage for the accumulated steroid compounds. In this study, we have successfully constructed a campesterol biosynthetic pathway by modifying the synthetic pathway of ergosterol in Y.

Improved campesterol production in engineered Yarrowia lipolytica strains

Biotechnology Letters, 2017
To engineer Yarrowia lipolytica for improving the heterologous production of campesterol (a key precursor to manufacture pharmaceutical steroids).By screening 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase (DHCR7) from diverse species, DHCR7 from Danio rerio was the best candidate for campesterol synthesis.

Plasma Lathosterol and Campesterol in Detection of Ileal Dysfunction

Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1988
Plasma lathosterol levels reflect cholesterol synthesis, especially that induced by bile acid malabsorption, whereas plasma plant sterol contents change in parallel with cholesterol and fat absorption. The significance of lathosterols and plant sterols (campesterol and sitosterol) was therefore studied in detection of ileal dysfunction in 29 patients ...

Identification of β‐sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol in human serum

Lipids, 1975
AbstractThe presence of 3 plant sterols, β‐sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol, has been demonstrated in the serum from 2 patients with β‐sitosterolemia and xanthomatosis.

Separation of Campesterol and β‐Sitosterol from a Sterol Mixture

Separation Science and Technology, 2006
Abstract By solvent crystallization using diethyl ether as the solvent on sterol mixture, brassicasterol and stigmasterol that contains a side chain with double bond were separated from campesterol and β‐sitosterol with a saturated side chain. The total campesterol and β‐sitosterol content in the liquid phase was more than 97% with a recovery of 12 ...

Identification of campesterol from Chrysanthemum coronarium L. and its antiangiogenic activities

Phytotherapy Research, 2007
AbstractCampesterol, a plant sterol in nature, is known to have cholesterol lowering and anticarcinogenic effects. Since angiogenesis is essential for cancer, it was surmised that an antiangiogenic effect may be involved in the anticancer action of this compound. This study investigated the effect of campesterol on basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF)‐

Detection of Argan Oil Adulteration Using Quantitative Campesterol GC‐Analysis

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 2007
AbstractDetection of edible oil adulteration is of utmost important to ensure product quality and customer protection. Campesterol, a sterol found in seed oils, represents less than 0.4% of argan oil total sterol content. Quantitative analysis of campesterol by gas chromatography of argan oil and of a mixture of argan oil and readily commercially ...

Effect of Dietary Cholesterol Level on Plasma Campesterol Concentration in Rhesus Monkeys

Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism, 1987
High- and low-responding rhesus monkeys were fed diets containing 0.02, 0.15 and 0.75 mg/kcal cholesterol without or with 2% of a mixture of plant sterols for 6 weeks. No plant sterols were detected in the plasma of either high- or low-responding animals fed the cholesterol-containing diets but with low levels of plant sterols.

Campesterol Semi‐Synthetic Derivatives as Potential Antibacterial: in vitro and in silico Evaluation

Chemistry & Biodiversity, 2023
AbstractIn this study, twelve campesterol derivatives (2–13) were prepared by esterification reaction at the hydroxy group in C‐3 and catalytic hydrogenation at the carbon‐carbon double bond in C‐5(6). All obtained compounds were characterized by IR, 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, and MS spectra.
