Simultaneous determination of tetrahydro-β-carbolines and β-carbolines
Chromatographia, 1996Reversed-phase ion-pair HPLC with fluorimetric detectors connected in series was studied for the simultaneous determination of two tetrahydro-β-carbolines and two β-carbolines. After additon of internal standards the samples were reacted with fluorescamine, and then subjected to serial extractions to remove their precursor (tryptamine) from the ...

TRYPTAMINES, CARBOLINES, AND RELATED COMPOUNDS: PART VIII. δ-CARBOLINE
Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1960The first unambiguous synthesis of δ-carboline has been achieved starting with 3-amino-2-phenylpyridine. This was converted to the azide which was thermally cyclized to δ-carboline. The carboline gave a py-N-methiodide which was converted to the anhydronium base. The pKa of the anhydronium base was determined and its significance is discussed.

ChemInform Abstract: CARBOLINE 1. MITT. 1,4‐DISUBSTITUIERTE BETA‐CARBOLINE
Chemischer Informationsdienst.

Abstract Herein, we report a facile synthesis of 3,4-dihydro-β-carbolines and aromatic β-carbolines from tetrahydro-β-carbolines, mediated by N -bromosuccinimide in toluene at 0 °C to room temperature (rt), in good to moderate yields.

Microwave‐Assisted Synthesis of Tetrahydro‐β‐carbolines and β‐Carbolines
European Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2014AbstractA microwave‐mediated Pictet–Spengler procedure utilizing 1,2‐dichloroethane (DCE) and trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) was developed to provide tetrahydro‐β‐carboline salts in high yields. Reactions are complete in 20 minutes or less and the product precipitates from solution in high yields and purity, negating the need for liquid–liquid extraction ...

β-Carboline alkaloids bind DNA
Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 2010Beta-carboline alkaloids present in Peganum harmala (harmal) have recently drawn attention due to their antitumor activities. The mechanistic studies indicate that beta-carboline derivatives inhibit DNA topoisomerases and interfere with DNA synthesis. They interact with DNA via both groove binding and intercalative modes and cause major DNA structural ...

Pyridylethylation ofγ-carbolines
Pharmaceutical Chemistry Journal, 1967The synthesis of a series of derivatives of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-λ-carbolines having a 2- or a 4-pyridylethyl group on the indole nitrogen atom is described.

β-Carboline-Induced Anxiety States
Psychopathology, 1984Several C-3-substituted beta-carbolines (e.g., the ethyl ester of beta-carboline-3-carboxylic acid) have high affinities for benzodiazepine receptors and can antagonize the principal pharmacologic actions of the benzodiazepines. The observation that some of these compounds also possess 'intrinsic' actions, best described as pharmacologically opposite ...
