Monoamine Oxidase Inhibition by Plant-Derived β-Carbolines; Implications for the Psychopharmacology of Tobacco and Ayahuasca

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
The monoamine oxidases (MAOs) are flavin-containing amine oxidoreductases responsible for metabolism of many biogenic amine molecules in the brain and peripheral tissues.

2-(2,5-Dimethoxyphenyl)pyrrole-3-carbonitrile

open access: yesMolbank, 2023
The Cadogan reaction of 2-aryl-3-nitropyridines leads to δ-carbolines. The title compound is a side product in this reaction, generated via a ring opening of a nitrene and cyclization. A crystal structure analysis gives an enormous unit cell.

β-Carboline (norharman) [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications, 2011
The structure of β-carboline, also called norharman (systematic name: 9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole), C(11)H(8)N(2), has been determined at 110 K. Norharman is prevalent in the environment and the human body and is of wide biological interest. The structure exhibits intermolecular N-H···N hydrogen bonding, which results in a one-dimensional herringbone motif.

Mild and efficient ammonium chloride catalyzed Greener synthesis of tetrahydro-β-carboline

open access: yesCurrent Research in Green and Sustainable Chemistry, 2022
This protocol involves the NH4Cl catalyzed Pictet−Spengler reactions of tryptamine and arylaldehydes in anhydrous MeOH solvent to gives corresponding tetrahydro-β-carbolines (THβC) with 90% yield. This methodology offers mild, efficient and green reagent

The Simultaneous Formation of Acrylamide, β-carbolines, and Advanced Glycation End Products in a Chemical Model System: Effect of Multiple Precursor Amino Acids

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
This study investigated the effect of multiple precursor amino acids on the simultaneous formation of acrylamide, β-carbolines (i. e., harmane and norharmane), and advanced glycation end products (AGEs) [i.e., Nε-(carboxymethyl)lysine and Nε ...

Reactions of carboline [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Spectroscopy, 1997
The reactions of carboline under various oxidative conditions are reported. The soft aerobic radiolysis, hydroxylation and rearrangement transformations are studied using isotopic labelling and GC–MS techniques.

An intramolecular inverse electron demand Diels–Alder approach to annulated α-carbolines

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2012
Intramolecular inverse electron demand cycloadditions of isatin-derived 1,2,4-triazines with acetylenic dienophiles tethered by amidations or transesterifications proceed in excellent yields to produce lactam- or lactone-fused α-carbolines.

Stereodivergent assembly of tetrahydro-γ-carbolines via synergistic catalytic asymmetric cascade reaction

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Tetrahydro-γ-carbolines are the basic structural unit in many natural products and pharmaceuticals. Here, the authors report a synergistic Cu/Ir system to assemble chiral tetrahydro-γ-carbolines via a stereodivergent allylation followed by a ...

Cytotoxic Bis-3,4-dihydro-β-carbolines and Bis-β-carbolines [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry, 2002
Ten bis-beta-carboline 1, 2 and bis-3,4-dihydro-beta-carboline 3, 4 derivatives, linked between carbons 1 and 1' by a polymethylene spacer, were synthesized from bistryptamine amides 9, 10. Some of them display a micromolar IC50 towards L-1210 cells.
