Involvement of caspase-4(-like) protease in Fas-mediated apoptotic pathway [PDF]
Proteases of the caspase family, especially caspase-1 (ICE)(-like), caspase-3 (CPP32/Yama/apopain)(-like) and caspase-8 (MACH/FLICE/Mch5) proteases, are implicated in Fas (APO-1/CD95)-mediated apoptosis. Here, we show that the caspase-4 (TX/ICH-2/ICE(rel)II)(-like) protease, another member of the caspase family, is also involved in Fas-mediated ...

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Tetramer formation by the caspase‐activated fragment of the Par‐4 tumor suppressor [PDF]
The prostate apoptosis response‐4 (Par‐4) tumor suppressor can selectively kill cancer cells via apoptosis while leaving healthy cells unharmed. Full length Par‐4 has been shown to be predominantly intrinsically disordered in vitro under neutral conditions.

Background The xylem vascular system is composed of fused dead, hollow cells called tracheary elements (TEs) that originate through trans-differentiation of root and shoot cambium cells. TEs undergo autolysis as they differentiate and mature.

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Caspase-4 disaggregates lipopolysaccharide micelles via LPS-CARD interaction [PDF]
AbstractLipopolysaccharides (LPS) are a major component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria and are pathogen-associated molecular patterns recognized by the TLR4/MD2 complex that induces an inflammatory response. Recently, the cytosolic receptors caspase-4/-5/-11 that bind LPS inside the cell and trigger inflammasome activation or ...

This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.
