Nucleotide metabolism in endothelium is variable between different species. Recent studies demonstrated that this variability could contribute coagulation dysfunction, even though organs of the alpha1,3-galactosyltransferase gene knockout pig were ...

Targeting CD73 to augment cancer immunotherapy
CD73 (ecto-5'-nucleotidase) is a novel immunoinhibitory protein that plays a key role for tumor growth and metastasis. Its main function is to convert extracellular ATP to immunosuppressive adenosine in concert with CD39 in normal tissues to limit excessive immune response.

PML degradation fosters an immunosuppressive and pro-metastatic tumor microenvironment
The tumor suppressive functions of promyelocytic leukemia (PML) have been attributed mainly to its inhibition of various malignant properties of tumor cells.

HIF1A reduces acute lung injury by optimizing carbohydrate metabolism in the alveolar epithelium [PDF]
Background: While acute lung injury (ALI) contributes significantly to critical illness, it resolves spontaneously in many instances. The majority of patients experiencing ALI require mechanical ventilation.

CD73+ Dendritic Cells in Cascading Th17 Responses of Experimental Autoimmune Uveitis-Induced Mice
Previous studies have shown that CD73 is pivotal in the conversion of pro-inflammatory adenosine triphosphate into anti-inflammatory adenosine and that immune cells of the same type that express different levels of CD73 are functionally distinct. In this

Upregulation of inducible NO synthase by exogenous adenosine in vascular smooth muscle cells activated by inflammatory stimuli in experimental diabetes [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Adenosine has been shown to induce nitric oxide (NO) production via inducible NO synthase (iNOS) activation in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Although this is interpreted as a beneficial vasodilating pathway in vaso-occlusive disorders,

CD73 promotes tumor growth and metastasis [PDF]
Our recent data and that of others demonstrate that both tumor and host CD73-generated adenosine promote tumor growth and metastasis in a multifactorial manner. Results with small molecule inhibitors or monoclonal antibodies against CD73 in multiple tumor models suggest that CD73 is a previously unappreciated important target for effective cancer ...

CD73 promotes colitis‑associated tumorigenesis in mice
Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at a higher risk of developing colitis-associated colorectal cancer. The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of CD73 in IBD-associated tumorigenesis. A mouse model of colitis-associated tumorigenesis (CAT) induced by azoxymethane and dextran sulfate sodium was successfully constructed.

CD39/CD73/A2AR pathway and cancer immunotherapy
AbstractCancer development is closely associated with immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) that attenuates antitumor immune responses and promotes tumor cell immunologic escape. The sequential conversion of extracellular ATP into adenosine by two important cell-surface ectonucleosidases CD39 and CD73 play critical roles in reshaping an ...
