Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Comparison of the capacity of β-cyclodextrin derivatives and cyclophanes to shuttle cholesterol between cells and serum lipoproteins

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1999
Previous studies from this laboratory have demonstrated that low concentrations of cyclodextrins (

Leveraging Macrophage Metabolic Reprogramming for Enhanced Anti‐Tumor Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tumor‐associated macrophages (TAMs) are key regulators of the tumor microenvironment (TME), with their metabolic states playing a critical role in tumor progression or regression. This review summarizes current understanding of TAM metabolic plasticity alongside cutting‐edge bioengineering innovations, outlining a roadmap for transforming the ...

The Antiatherogenic Effects of Flavonoid on Cholesterol Efflux Capacity

open access: yes, 2022
One of the mechanisms used in the management and cure of atherosclerosis is reverse cholesterol transfer (RCT), which plays a vital role in the export of cholesterol from peripheral cells. Cholesterol efflux from macrophages in the subintima of the vessel wall is a critical part of RCT.

Metrics of High-Density Lipoprotein Function and Hospital Mortality in Acute Heart Failure Patients.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
ObjectiveThe functionality of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) is impaired in chronic ischaemic heart failure (HF). However, the relationship between HDL functionality and outcomes in acute HF (AHF) has not been studied.

Net cholesterol efflux capacity of HDL enriched serum and coronary atherosclerosis in rheumatoid arthritis

open access: yes, 2016
Background/objectivesCardiovascular (CV) risk is increased in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but not fully explained by traditional risk factors such as LDL and HDL cholesterol concentrations.

Nanomedicine Meets Immunotherapy: Advancing Adoptive Cell Therapy with Nanoparticles in the Treatment of Cancer with Sustainability Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review surveys nanoparticle‐based strategies to enhance adoptive cell therapy, particularly CAR‐T cell approaches, in solid tumor treatment. It describes how nanoparticles can improve tumor immunogenicity and T‐cell infiltration while reducing toxicity, and how they enable in vivo CAR‐T cell generation.

Inhibition of ABCA1 protein degradation promotes HDL cholesterol efflux capacity and RCT and reduces atherosclerosis in mice

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2015
ABCA1 plays a key role in the initial lipidation of apoA-I, which generates circulating HDL cholesterol. Whereas it is known that the transcriptional upregulation of ABCA1 promotes HDL formation and reverse cholesterol transport (RCT), it is not known ...

Crystal Facet‐Polysaccharide Matching in CFS‐P Nanocrystals Drives Fungal Uptake, Vacuole Destruction, and Selective Antifungal Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Facet‐engineered PVP‐capped CuFeSe2 nanocrystals exhibit potent, selective antifungal activity by strongly binding cell‐wall mannan, enabling vacuolar entry and organelle disruption. High‐index facets show superior mannan affinity, validated by theoretical calculations and experiments. CFS‐P induces vacuolar cavitation, mitochondrial abnormalities, and

Impact of LDL apheresis on atheroprotective reverse cholesterol transport pathway in familial hypercholesterolemia

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2012
In familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), low HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) levels are associated with functional alterations of HDL particles that reduce their capacity to mediate the reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) pathway.
