Cilengitide: an RGD pentapeptide ανβ3 and ανβ5 integrin inhibitor in development for glioblastoma and other malignancies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Cilengitide, a cyclicized arginine-glycine-aspartic acid-containing pentapeptide, potently blocks ανβ3 and ανβ5 integrin activation. Integrins are upregulated in many malignancies and mediate a wide variety of tumor-stroma interactions.

Integrin Beta 3 Regulates Cellular Senescence by Activating the TGF-β Pathway

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
Cellular senescence is an important in vivo mechanism that prevents the propagation of damaged cells. However, the precise mechanisms regulating senescence are not well characterized.

Canstatin inhibits hypoxia-induced apoptosis through activation of integrin/focal adhesion kinase/Akt signaling pathway in H9c2 cardiomyoblasts. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
A hypoxic stress which causes apoptosis of cardiomyocytes is the main problem in the ischemic heart disease. Canstatin, a non-collagenous fragment of type IV collagen α2 chain, is an endogenous anti-angiogenic factor.

The Evolving Role of the Oncologic Neurosurgeon: Looking Beyond Extent of Resection in the Modern Era

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2018
Neurosurgeons have played an essential role in glioma management and research for over a century. While the past twenty years have played witness to many exciting developments in glioma biology, diagnosis, and classification, relatively few novel ...

Irisin ameliorates neuroinflammation and neuronal apoptosis through integrin αVβ5/AMPK signaling pathway after intracerebral hemorrhage in mice

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2022
Background Neuroinflammation is a crucial factor in the development of secondary brain injury after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Irisin is a newly identified myokine that confers strong neuroprotective effects in experimental ischemic stroke. However,

The Integrin Inhibitor Cilengitide Affects Meningioma Cell Motility and Invasion [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Cancer Research, 2013
Abstract Purpose: Meningiomas are frequent intracranial or spinal neoplasms, which recur frequently and can show aggressive clinical behaviour. We elucidated the impact of the integrin inhibitor cilengitide on migration, proliferation, and radiosensitization of meningioma cells.

Cilengitide augments the permeability of HUVEC monolayers.

open access: yes, 2013
(a). HUVEC were grown on fibronectin- or collagen I-coated PET filter inserts for 20 hours to ensure confluence and treated with cilengitide (10 µM), CGP77675 (2.5 µM) or a combination thereof.

Cilengitide: A Prototypic Integrin Inhibitor for the Treatment of Glioblastoma and Other Malignancies [PDF]

open access: yesGenes & Cancer, 2011
Integrins are critical intermediaries in a wide spectrum of cancer cell activities and thus represent a highly attractive target in oncology therapy. Nonetheless, successful exploitation of anti-integrin therapeutics has proven challenging to date for cancer patients.

A positive feedback loop between Periostin and TGFβ1 induces and maintains the stemness of hepatocellular carcinoma cells via AP-2α activation

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2021
Background Liver cancer stem cells (LCSCs) play key roles in the metastasis, recurrence, and chemotherapeutic resistance of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Extracellularly Activatable Conjugates of RGD Peptidomimetics and Cryptophycin for αVβ3‐Targeted Cancer Therapy

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Integrin αVβ3‐targeting small‐molecule drug conjugates (SMDCs) were synthesized by conjugating a cryptophycin payload through a neutrophil elastase‐cleavable NPV‐PABC linker. RGD peptidomimetic and linker epimers served as controls for targeting and enzymatic cleavage, and the resulting conjugates displayed subnanomolar cytotoxicity in vitro.
