Effects of cilengitide in osteoclast maturation and behavior

open access: yesExperimental Cell Research, 2015
Bone metastasis is a common burden in many types of cancer and has a severe impact on the quality of life in patients. Hence, specific therapeutic strategies inhibiting tumor induced osteolysis are urgently needed. In this study, we aimed to interfere with integrin adhesion receptors, which are central players of the bone resorption process.

Inhibition of integrin alpha v/beta 5 mitigates the protective effect induced by irisin in hemorrhage

open access: yesExperimental and Molecular Pathology, 2023
Introduction: Irisin plays an important role in regulating tissue stress, cardiac function, and inflammation. Integrin αvβ5 was recently identified as a receptor for irisin to elicit its physiologic function.

Extracellular Matrix Proteins Confer Cell Adhesion-Mediated Drug Resistance Through Integrin αv in Glioblastoma Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2021
Chemotherapy resistance to glioblastoma (GBM) remains an obstacle that is difficult to overcome, leading to poor prognosis of GBM patients. Many previous studies have focused on resistance mechanisms intrinsic to cancer cells; the microenvironment ...

Integrin αvβ5 Internalizes Zika Virus during Neural Stem Cells Infection and Provides a Promising Target for Antiviral Therapy

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: We perform a CRISPR-Cas9 genome-wide screen in glioblastoma stem cells and identify integrin αvβ5 as an internalization factor for Zika virus (ZIKV).

Laminins in tumor-derived exosomes upregulated by ETS1 reprogram omental macrophages to promote omental metastasis of ovarian cancer

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2022
Tumor-derived exosomes participate in omental metastatic colonization of ovarian cancer by inducing an adaptive response in the tumor microenvironment. However, cell–cell communication via exosomes between primary tumor cells and the microenvironment of ...

Is neuroglial antigen 2 a potential contributor to cilengitide response in glioblastoma? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Determining the expression levels of neuroglial antigen 2 (NG2) in glioma cell lines and to evaluate the potential contribution of NG2 to cilengitide response were aimed.

Secondary Site Ligand for Integrin αVβ3 Enables Targeted mRNA Delivery

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 34, 17 August 2026.
Non‐orthosteric, low‐affinity ligands for integrin αVβ3, identified by fragment screening, achieve superselective nanoparticle targeting (ακ ≈ 3) of αVβ3‐overexpressing endothelial cells. Unlike traditional arginine–glycine–aspartate decorated particles, these fragment‐functionalized LNPs discriminate cells by receptor density and deliver mRNA to ...

Fibronectin Promotes the Malignancy of Glioma Stem-Like Cells Via Modulation of Cell Adhesion, Differentiation, Proliferation and Chemoresistance

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2018
Glioma stem-like cells (GSCs) are regarded as the sources of oncogenesis, recurrence, invasion and chemoresistance in malignant gliomas. Growing evidence suggests that the microenvironment surrounding GSCs interacts with tumor cells to influence ...

Effects of cilengitide derivatives on TGF-β1-induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and invasion in gefitinib-resistant non-small cell lung cancer cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2023
Long-term administration of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) used for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) induces TKI resistance in cells.

Cilengitide induces autophagy-mediated cell death in glioma cells [PDF]

open access: yesNeuro-Oncology, 2011
We studied the effect of the integrin inhibitor cilengitide in glioma cells. Cilengitide induced cell detachment and decreased cell viability, and induction of autophagy followed by cell apoptosis. In addition, cilengitide decreased the cell renewal of glioma stem-like cells (GSCs). Inhibition of autophagy decreased the cytotoxic effect of cilengitide.
