Neural circular RNAs are derived from synaptic genes and regulated by development and plasticity

open access: yesNature Neuroscience, 2015
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have re-emerged as an interesting RNA species. Using deep RNA profiling in different mouse tissues, we observed that circRNAs were substantially enriched in brain and a disproportionate fraction of them were derived from host ...

Circular RNAs in Blood

open access: yes, 2018
Recent advances in RNA sequencing and bioinformatic analysis have allowed the development of a new research field: circular RNAs (circRNAs). These members of the non-coding transcriptome are generated by backsplicing, which results in a covalently closed, single-stranded RNA molecule.

Back-spliced RNA from retrotransposon binds to centromere and regulates centromeric chromatin loops in maize.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2020
In most plants, centromeric DNA contains highly repetitive sequences, including tandem repeats and retrotransposons; however, the roles of these sequences in the structure and function of the centromere are unclear.

Next generation sequencing for studying viruses and RNA silencing-based antiviral defense in crop plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The main objectives of this work have been to use next generation sequencing (NGS) and develop bioinformatics tools for plant virus diagnostics and genome reconstruction as well as for investigation of RNA silencing-based antiviral defense.

Circular RNAs in breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and prognosis

open access: yesOncology Research, 2023
Breast cancer has surpassed lung cancer to become the most common malignancy worldwide. The incidence rate and mortality rate of breast cancer continue to rise, which leads to a great burden on public health.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

What goes around comes around: Artificial circular RNAs bypass cellular antiviral responses

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, 2022
Natural circular RNAs have been found to sequester microRNAs and suppress their function. We have used this principle as a molecular tool and produced artificial circular RNA sponges in a cell-free system by in vitro transcription and ligation. Formerly,

Comprehensive Analysis of Circular RNAs in Endothelial Cells

open access: yes, 2023
Non-coding RNAs constitute a heterogeneous group of molecules that lack the ability to encode proteins but retain the potential ability to influence cellular processes through a regulatory mechanism.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The enigma of circular RNA [PDF]

open access: yesNature Reviews Immunology, 2019
This study shows that circular RNAs that contain double-stranded regions can modulate innate immunity by inhibiting the pattern recognition receptor protein kinase R (PKR).
