A Long‐Lived Human Neurovascular PENTA Culture Model Captures Incomplete Vascular Repair and Glia‐Associated Signaling After Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A long‐lived, five‐cell‐type human neurovascular (PENTA) model recreates vascular disorganization and incomplete repair after traumatic brain injury (TBI). By integrating endothelial, glial, neuronal, and immune components within a 3D scaffold, the platform enables time‐resolved analysis of neurovascular remodeling and provides a human‐relevant system ...

High glucose levels increase influenza-associated damage to the pulmonary epithelial-endothelial barrier

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Diabetes mellitus is a known susceptibility factor for severe influenza virus infections. However, the mechanisms that underlie this susceptibility remain incompletely understood.

Endothelial Claudin [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Cell Biology, 1999
Tight junctions (TJs) in endothelial cells are thought to determine vascular permeability. Recently, claudin-1 to -15 were identified as major components of TJ strands. Among these, claudin-5 (also called transmembrane protein deleted in velo-cardio-facial syndrome [TMVCF]) was expressed ubiquitously, even in organs lacking epithelial tissues ...

Bifidobacterium Pseudolongum‐Derived Acetate Attenuates Acute Pancreatitis Through GPR43‐Mediated Suppression of M1 Macrophage Polarization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The severity of acute pancreatitis (AP) is linked to reduced abundance of Bifidobacterium pseudolongum (B. pseudolongum). Administration of B. pseudolongum or its key metabolite acetate alleviates pancreatic and systemic inflammation by suppressing M1 macrophage polarization.

Early Radiation-Induced Changes in Lung Tissue and Intercellular Junctions: Implications for Tissue Repair and Fibrosis

open access: yesPathophysiology
Early changes in lung tissue following ionizing radiation (IR) initiate processes that may lead to either regeneration or fibrosis. Intercellular junction proteins play a crucial role in the organization and function of epithelial tissues, both under ...

Identification of a claudin-low subtype in clear cell renal cell carcinoma with implications for the evaluation of clinical outcomes and treatment efficacy

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
BackgroundIn bladder and breast cancer, the claudin-low subtype is widely identified, revealing a distinct tumor microenvironment (TME) and immunological feature.

Fifty-kDa Hyaluronic Acid Upregulates Some Epidermal Genes without Changing TNF-α Expression in Reconstituted Epidermis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Due to its strong water binding potential, hyaluronic acid (HA) is a well-known active ingredient for cosmetic applications. However, based on its varying molecular size, skin penetration of HA may be limited. Recent studies have demonstrated

Delivery of Pleckstrin‐Homology Domains Suppresses PI3K/Akt Signaling and Breast Cancer Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current therapies curb tumor growth but not metastasis. Obscurin, a giant metastasis suppressor lost in breast cancer, restrains PI3K/Akt signaling but is impractical to restore. We deploy a mini‐obscurin, comprising the obscurin‐PH‐domain, which sequesters PI3K‐p85, potently suppressing invasion and metastasis.

Transcriptomic Analysis of Testicular Gene Expression in a Dog Model of Experimentally Induced Cryptorchidism

open access: yesCells, 2022
Cryptorchidism, a condition in which testes fail to descend from the abdomen into the scrotum, is a risk factor for infertility and germ cell cancer. Normally, tight junctions between adjacent Sertoli cells in the testes form a blood–testes barrier that ...

Paper waves in the wind

open access: yes, 2015
A flexible sheet clamped at both ends and submitted to a permanent wind is unstable and propagates waves. Here, we experimentally study the selection of frequency and wavenumber as a function of the wind velocity.
