SpxA1 and SpxA2 act coordinately to fine-tune stress responses and virulence in Streptococcus pyogenes [PDF]
SpxA is a unique transcriptional regulator highly conserved among members of the phylum Firmicutes that binds RNA polymerase and can act as an antiactivator. Why some Firmicutes members have two highly similar SpxA paralogs is not understood.

Mcx1p, a ClpX homologue in mitochondria of Saccharomyces cerevisiae [PDF]
Members of the Hsp100/Clp‐family of molecular chaperones form regulatory subunits of ATP‐dependent Clp proteases and fulfill crucial roles for cellular thermotolerance. We have identified a Clp‐like protein in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Mcx1p, which shares approximately 30% sequence identity with ClpX‐proteins in bacteria, plants and nematodes.

The effects of variation in snow properties on passive microwave snow mass estimation [PDF]
Estimating snow mass at continental scales is difficult, but important for understanding land-atmosphere interactions, biogeochemical cycles and the hydrology of the Northern latitudes.

Distribution of the clpX gene in Brachyspira species and reactivity of recombinant Brachyspira pilosicoli ClpX with sera from mice and humans [PDF]
Previously, aclpXgene encoding a predicted 67 kDa membrane-associated ATPase subunit of the Clp protease (ClpX) was identified in a porcine strain (95/1000) of the intestinal spirochaeteBrachyspira pilosicoli. In the current study, the distribution of this largeclpXgene was investigated in a collection of strains representing all sevenBrachyspiraspp ...

ClpX, a Stochastic Protein Unfolding and Translocation Machine [PDF]
During protein degradation by ClpXP, AAA+ ClpX hexamers grip protein substrates using GYVG pore loops and harness the energy of ATP binding and hydrolysis to the drive conformational changes necessary for the mechanical denaturation and translocation of the substrate into the ClpP chamber.

The phenazine pyocyanin is a terminal signalling factor in the quorum sensing network of Pseudomonas aeruginosa [PDF]
Certain members of the fluorescent pseudomonads produce and secrete phenazines. These heterocyclic, redox-active compounds are toxic to competing organisms, and the cause of these antibiotic effects has been the focus of intense research efforts.

TRIP13 is a protein-remodeling AAA+ ATPase that catalyzes MAD2 conformation switching. [PDF]
The AAA+ family ATPase TRIP13 is a key regulator of meiotic recombination and the spindle assembly checkpoint, acting on signaling proteins of the conserved HORMA domain family.
