The effect of complement C5a on mitochondrial functions of PC12 cells
NeuroReport, 2011C5a is thought to play a role during complement-activated neuronal apoptotic cell death in the central nervous system. The mechanisms responsible are however not well-understood. As mitochondria play a key role during apoptosis, we investigated mitochondria as a potential target for C5a.

Complement C5a Receptor Assay for High Throughput Screening
Journal of Receptor Research, 1991The complement C5a receptor on U937 cells, a human histiocytic lymphoma cell line, stimulated with dibutyryl-cAMP have been stabilized for at least 3 months at a dilute, ready to use concentration. [125I]-Bolton Hunter labeled C5a, (recombinant, human) has been prepared by reverse phase HPLC to 2200 Ci/mmol. Using a filtration binding assay the Kd from

Complement C5a inhibition reduces atherosclerosis in ApoE –/– mice
The FASEB Journal, 2011ABSTRACT The complement C5a receptor, CD88, is present on many of the cells found within human atherosclerotic plaques, but little is known about the role of C5a in atherogenesis. Using real‐time PCR, we determined that ApoE –/–

C5a is a 74 amino acid peptide cleaved from the fifth component of the complement system after activation of either the alternative or classical pathways. It is a potent chemoattractant for neutrophils and monocytes binding to identical receptors on the cell surface.

Studies in rodent models suggested that complement may play a critical role in susceptibility to airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and as a mediator of bronchial obstruction and inflammation in asthma. Complement may participate in susceptibility to asthma because of an intrinsic abnormality in complement activation and generation of C3a, C5a, or other ...

Mesenteric dysfunction after cardiopulmonary bypass: role of complement C5a
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2000We investigated the effects of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on ileal homeostasis, and the influence of functional inhibition of complement C5a on CPB-induced mesenteric injury.Pigs were perfused on CPB for 1 hour and then perfused off CPB for an additional 2 hours.

The role of complement component C5a in nociceptive sensitization
2018<p>The complement system is a principal component of innate immunity. Recent studies have underscored the importance of C5a and other complement components in inflammatory and neuropathic pain, although the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. In particular, it is unclear how the complement system communicates with nociceptors and which ion

Loxoprofen sodium induces the production of complement C5a in human serum
International Immunopharmacology, 2016Basophil activation test (BAT) is an in vitro allergy test that is useful to identify allergens that cause IgE-dependent allergies. The test has been used to detect not only food allergies and allergies caused by environmental factors but also to detect drug hypersensitivity, which has been known to include IgE-independent reactions. In our preliminary
