Neuronal Expression of a Functional Receptor for the C5a Complement Activation Fragment [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 2001
Abstract The present studies were undertaken to determine whether neuronal subsets in normal brains constitutively express functionally competent C5a receptors. In situ hybridization studies coupled with immunohistochemical approaches revealed that most neurons in the hippocampal formation, many pyramidal cortical neurons, and ...

The Endothelial CXCR Family in Vascular Health and Disease

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Endothelial cells (ECs) form the dynamic interface between blood and tissue, serving as key regulators of vascular homeostasis, inflammation, and repair. Among the molecular systems governing endothelial behavior, the C‐X‐C motif chemokine receptor (CXCR) family—originally characterized in immunology for its roles in leukocyte trafficking and ...

Complement C5a and C5a receptor 1 mediates glomerular damage in focal segmental glomerulosclerosis

open access: yesClinical Immunology
Clinical data and animal models have provided compelling evidence supporting the pathogenic role of complement activation in the progression of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). However, the mechanisms underlying complement-induced podocyte injury and parietal epithelial cell (PEC) activation are not well understood. We evaluated glomerular ...

Adaptive Immunity in Marsupials

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, EarlyView.
Comparison of the marsupial and eutherian adaptive immune systems. ABSTRACT Marsupials diverged from eutherian mammals 125–160 million years ago. Although evolutionarily distinct, both groups of mammals can produce complex adaptive immune responses to antigens with several key differences.

Enhancement of Macrophage Phagocytosis by Complement Component C5a

open access: yes, 1998
To investigate the modulatory function of complement component C5a in macrophages, the effects of C5a on macrophage phagocytosis were examined by means of fluorescent polystyrene particles and flow cytometry.

Complement factors C3a and C5a mimick a proinflammatory microenvironment and increase HBV IGRA sensitivity

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2019
Background Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections represent a global health problem and chronic hepatitis B (CHB) leads to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Thus, timely diagnosis of hepatitis B is crucial to ensure adequate treatment.

Novel tetronamides derived from mucobromic acid: synthesis, structural elucidation, DFT calculations and phytotoxic activity

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The acyclic mucobromic acid, activated by (1S)‐(+)‐10‐camphorsulfonic acid, afforded the chiral compound 1b, precursor for aza‐Michael addition/elimination on the butenolide yielding tetronamides 2b‐7b. Their relative SRSR configuration was confirmed by the spectrometric methods, DFT calculation and statistical methods.

Complement component C5a Promotes Expression of IL-22 and IL-17 from Human T cells and its Implication in Age-related Macular Degeneration

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2011
Background Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in elderly populations worldwide. Inflammation, among many factors, has been suggested to play an important role in AMD pathogenesis.
