Biochemical characterization of membrane cofactor protein of the complement system.

The Journal of Immunology, 1988
Abstract Membrane cofactor protein (MCP; formerly termed glycoprotein 45-70 to indicate its Mr) of complement is a widely distributed iC3/C3b binding protein with co-factor activity. On human mononuclear cells and cell lines and platelets, MCP is a doublet.

Interaction of C-Reactive Protein Complexes with the Complement System

The Journal of Immunology, 1974
Abstract The reaction of C-reactive protein (CRP) with C-polysaccharide and the choline phosphatides, lecithin and sphingomyelin, previously shown to induce consumption of human complement, failed to effect consumption of guinea pig complement except in the presence of a thermolabile human serum factor.

[Membrane proteins as regulators of the complement system].

Ukrainskii biokhimicheskii zhurnal (1978), 1997
The data on structure, biochemical properties and functions of membrane proteins, performing cell defence against complement lysis, are summarized. Proteins DAE (decay accelerating factor) and CR1 (complement receptor of type 1) reduce the stability of complement convertases and cause their dissociation.

Conservation of Plasma Regulatory Proteins of the Complement System in Evolution: Humans and Fish

Experimental and Clinical Immunogenetics, 2000
The complement system is an important defense system of innate immunity. The recent identification of structurally and functionally related complement regulatory proteins in the teleost, barred sand bass (Paralabrax nebulifer), and humans, two species which are separated in evolution by 100 million years, indicates a high level of ...

Antibody production and complement system in protein energy malnutrition.

The Journal of tropical medicine and hygiene, 1977
Antibody production in kwashiorkor and marasmic infants was studied by dividing them into three groups and giving the first group a single dose of trivalent live attenuated polio virus, the second group live attenuated measles virus and the third group diphtheriatoxoid.

[Complement system proteins in the acute phase of myocardial infarction].

Voprosy meditsinskoi khimii, 1981
Content of C3 and C4 fractions was decreased in blood of patients with acute primary myocardial infarction within the first day of the disease as compared with the level of these fractions observed just after the hospitalization of the patients. These data suggest the activation of the complement system during this first period of the disease.
