Changes in gap junction proteins Connexin30.2 and Connexin40 expression in the sinoatrial node of rats with dexmedetomidine-induced sinus bradycardia [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Anesthesiology, 2022
Background: Dexmedetomidine (Dex) is widely used, and its most common side effect is bradycardia. The complete mechanism through which Dex induces bradycardia has not been elucidated.

Maintenance and Reversibility of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation in JDP2 Overexpressing Mice [PDF]

open access: yesCells
Heart-specific overexpression of transcriptional regulator JDP2 (jun dimerization protein 2) for 5 weeks provokes paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) in mice.

Endothelium-Derived Hyperpolarizing Factor and Myoendothelial Coupling: The in vivo Perspective [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2020
The endothelium controls vascular tone adopting blood flow to tissue needs. It releases chemical mediators [e.g., nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandins (PG)] and exerts appreciable dilation through smooth muscle hyperpolarization, thus termed endothelium ...

Angiopoietin‐1 Promotes the Integrity of Neovascularization in the Subcutaneous Matrigel of Type 1 Diabetic Rats [PDF]

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Objective. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Ang‐1 on neovascularization of diabetic organs by subcutaneous Matrigel angiogenesis model, established in type 1 diabetic rats. Methods. Ang‐1 adenoviral vector was constructed. The rat model was established by STZ and divided into four group.

Accumulated β-catenin is associated with human atrial fibrosis and atrial fibrillation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine
Background Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with increased risk of stroke and mortality. It has been reported that the process of atrial fibrosis was regulated by β-catenin in rats with AF.

The role of SARS‐CoV‐2 target ACE2 in cardiovascular diseases

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 25, Issue 3, Page 1342-1349, February 2021., 2021
Abstract SARS‐CoV‐2, the virus responsible for the global coronavirus disease (COVID‐19) pandemic, attacks multiple organs of the human body by binding to angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) to enter cells. More than 20 million people have already been infected by the virus.

Interfering amino terminal peptides and functional implications for heteromeric gap junction formation

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2013
Connexin43 (Cx43) is widely expressed in many different tissues of the human body. In cells of some organs, Cx43 is co-expressed with other connexins (Cx), including Cx46 and Cx50 in lens, Cx40 in atrium, Purkinje fibers, and the blood vessel wall, Cx45 ...

The CAR group of Ig cell adhesion proteins–Regulators of gap junctions?

open access: yesBioEssays, Volume 42, Issue 12, December 2020., 2020
CAR, CLMP, BT‐IgSF and ESAM form a small group of homophilic cell adhesion molecules within immunoglobulin superfamily. On the basis of genetic studies the author hypothesizes that these Ig‐like proteins primarily play a role in the organization of gap junction communication.
