Subtype-specific block of voltage-gated K+ channels by μ-conopeptides
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2017The neurotoxic cone snail peptide μ-GIIIA specifically blocks skeletal muscle voltage-gated sodium (NaV1.4) channels. The related conopeptides μ-PIIIA and μ-SIIIA, however, exhibit a wider activity spectrum by also inhibiting the neuronal NaV channels NaV1.2 and NaV1.7.

Direct cDNA cloning of novel conopeptide precursors of the O-superfamily
Peptides, 2005Conotoxins from the venom of marine cone snails (genus Conus) represent large families of proteins exhibiting a similar precursor organization, but highly diverse pharmacological activities. A directed PCR-based approach using primers according to the conserved signal sequence was applied to investigate the diversity of conotoxins from the O ...

Discovery and development of the χ-conopeptide class of analgesic peptides
Toxicon, 2012Cone snail venoms continue to provide a rich source of bioactive peptides useful as research tools and leads to new therapeutics. We isolated two closely related conopeptides, MrIA and MrIB, which defined the χ-conopeptide class of bioactive peptides based on their unique ability to highly selectively and non-competitively inhibit the norepinephrine ...
