Hypoxia induced the differentiation of Tbx18-positive epicardial cells to CoSMCs
AbstractUnderstanding the origin and differentiation mechanism of coronary vascular smooth muscle cells (CoSMCs) is very important to cardiovascular biology. The early cardiovascular system is formed in a hypoxic microenvironment and Tbx18-positive epicardial cells are a source of CoSMCs.

COSMC modulates protein degradation of VEGFR2.
(A) COSMC overexpression delays degradation of VEGFR2. HUVECs were treated with cycloheximide (10 µg/ml) to block protein synthesis and 20 ng/ml of VEGF to trigger internalization and degradation of VEGFR2 for indicated time points.

Regulation of protein O-glycosylation by the endoplasmic reticulum–localized molecular chaperone Cosmc [PDF]
Regulatory pathways for protein glycosylation are poorly understood, but expression of branchpoint enzymes is critical. A key branchpoint enzyme is the T-synthase, which directs synthesis of the common core 1 O-glycan structure (T-antigen), the precursor structure for most mucin-type O-glycans in a wide variety of glycoproteins.

COSMC overexpression modulates O-glycans on VEGFR2.
(A) Changes in O-glycans on VEGFR2 in COSMC overexpressing HUVECs. Cell lysates of HUVECs transfected with control or COSMC plasmids were treated with or without neuraminidase, pulled down with VVA or PNA lectins, then immunoblotted with anti-VEGFR2 ...

A chemically defined vaccine is prepared by combining the structural design of a non‐natural glycopeptide antigen with a site‐specific protein modification. The resulting vaccine, which contains a single copy of the antigen, is both prophylactically and therapeutically effective. Importantly, this approach refutes a prevailing dogma that glycoconjugate
