Coxsackievirus Infection and Associated Diseases

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2022
Coxsackieviruses (CV) are ubiquitous and widespread single-stranded RNA viruses belonging to the Picornaviridae family and the genus Enterovirus, which also includes poliovirus (PV), the best known of the enteroviruses (EV) [...]

Combined approaches to flexible fitting and assessment in virus capsids undergoing conformational change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Fitting of atomic components into electron cryo-microscopy (cryoEM) density maps is routinely used to understand the structure and function of macromolecular machines.

Circulating Coxsackievirus A16 Identified as Recombinant Type A Human Enterovirus, China

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2011
To determine the relationship of coxsackievirus A16 (CA16) to prototype CA16-G10, we conducted a phylogenetic analysis of circulating CA16 strains in China.

Autophagy in coxsackievirus-infected neurons [PDF]

open access: yesAutophagy, 2009
Autophagy is a process to engulf aberrant organelles or protein aggregates into double-membrane vesicles for lysosomal breakdown. Autophagy is a protective process against some intracellular bacteria and viruses; however, it is also used for replication by some viruses, such as poliovirus.

A Three-Dimensional Cell Culture System To Model RNA Virus Infections at the Blood-Brain Barrier

open access: yesmSphere, 2017
The blood-brain barrier (BBB) comprises the foremost protective barrier in the brain and is composed in part of a layer of microvascular endothelial cells that line the capillaries surrounding the brain.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

IRES-dependent translational control during virus-induced endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2012
Many virus infections and stresses can induce endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response, a host self defense mechanism against viral invasion and stress.

Virus induced dysbiosis promotes type 1 diabetes onset

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Autoimmune disorders are complex diseases of unclear etiology, although evidence suggests that the convergence of genetic susceptibility and environmental factors are critical.
