The dendritic cell niche in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The pulmonary innate immune system is heavily implicated in the perpetual airway inflammation and impaired host defense characterizing Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Exiting the Outside World for Cross-Presentation [PDF]

open access: yesImmunity, 2006
How are extracellular proteins cross-presented on MHC class I molecules? In this issue of Immunity, demonstrate that the ER-associated degradation (ERAD) export pathway operates in the phagosomes of dendritic cells and transfers antigens into the MHC class I pathway.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Minimal-area metrics on the Swiss cross and punctured torus

open access: yes, 2019
The closed string field theory minimal-area problem asks for the conformal metric of least area on a Riemann surface with the condition that all non-contractible closed curves have length at least 2\pi.

A novel myeloid cell in murine spleen defined through gene profiling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A novel myeloid antigen presenting cell can be generated through in vitro haematopoiesis in long-term splenic stromal cocultures. The in vivo equivalent subset was recently identified as phenotypically and functionally distinct from the spleen subsets of

Antigen cross‐presentation: proteasome location, location, location [PDF]

open access: yesThe EMBO Journal, 2019
Our understanding of the mechanisms by which peptides from proteins present in phagosomes and endosomes are processed and presented on MHC class I molecules, in a pathway called cross-presentation, is still incomplete. One of the main questions arising from currently proposed models is how do proteins in the phagosome lumen reach the proteasome in the ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Type I Interferon-Independent Dendritic Cell Priming and Antitumor T Cell Activation Induced by a Mycoplasma fermentans Lipopeptide

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Mycoplasma fermentans-derived diacylated lipoprotein M161Ag (MALP404) is recognized by human/mouse toll-like receptor (TLR) 2/TLR6. Short proteolytic products including macrophage-activating lipopeptide 2 (MALP2) have been utilized as antitumor immune ...

The transcription factor Zeb2 regulates development of conventional and plasmacytoid DCs by repressing Id2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (DCs [pDCs]) develop from pre-pDCs, whereas two lineages of conventional DCs (cDCs; cDC1s and cDC2s) develop from lineage-committed pre-cDCs.
