Cyanidin induces apoptosis and differentiation in prostate cancer cells

open access: yesInternational Journal of Oncology, 2015
Several natural antioxidants, including anthocyanins, have been reported to have chemotherapeutic activity in vivo and in vitro. The aim of the present study was to delineate the anti-proliferative activity and the cytodifferentiation properties mediated by cyanidin-3-O-β-glucopyranoside (C3G) treatment in the DU145 and LnCap human prostatic cancer ...

Food Waste to Wellness: A Grape Pomace Blend in Gastric Cancer Prevention

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 6, June 2025.
Grape pomace was used to set up a phytocomplex studied for gastric cancer prevention. HPLC/MS analyses revealed that this mixture is a source of many polyphenols and amino acids. This novel nutraceutical (GPE) selectively targets cancer cells, sparing healthy ones. Molecular mechanisms confirmed that GPE acts, inducing apoptosis and autophagy.

Elucidating the role of shikimate dehydrogenase in controlling the production of anthocyanins and hydrolysable tannins in the outer peels of pomegranate. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BACKGROUND:The outer peels of pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) possess two groups of polyphenols that have health beneficial properties: anthocyanins (ATs, which also affect peel color); and hydrolysable tannins (HTs).

Evaluating Cassava Starch Residue as a Maize Substitute in Broiler Chicken Diets

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 6, June 2025.
The study explored the use of cassava starch residue (CSR) as a maize substitute in broiler chicken diets. Excitingly, CSR can replace maize up to 30%, enhancing feed efficiency without negative effects. However, higher CSR levels led to poorer growth performance, making 30% the sweet spot for optimal results. This innovative approach not only offers a

Requirement of a Plasmid-Encoded Catalase for Survival of \u3cem\u3eRhizobium etli\u3c/em\u3e CFN42 in a Polyphenol-Rich Environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Nitrogen-fixing bacteria collectively called rhizobia are adapted to live in polyphenol-rich environments. The mechanisms that allow these bacteria to overcome toxic concentrations of plant polyphenols have not been clearly elucidated.

The Impact of O-Glycosylation on Cyanidin Interaction with POPC Membranes: Structure-Activity Relationship

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Cyanidin and its O-glycosides have many important physiological functions in plants and beneficial effects on human health. Their biological activity is not entirely clear and depends on the structure of the molecule, in particular, on the number and ...

Enhanced Stability of Extracted Sour Cherry Anthocyanins Copigmented With Tannic Acid and Encapsulated by Spray Drying

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 6, June 2025.
Anthocyanins are unstable against external factor. Sour cherry anthocyanins copigmented with tannic acid and encapsulated by maltodextrin and Arabic gum as wall material. Copigmentation and encapsulation could stabilize red color and preserving anthocyanin. ABSTRACT Anthocyanins are valuable natural colorants but are inherently unstable when exposed to

Assessment of the Nutraceutical Properties of Wild Strawberry (Fragaria vesca L.) Extracts on Human Colorectal Cell Lines

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 69, Issue 11, June 2025.
The study explores the nutraceutical potential of wild strawberry (Fragaria vesca L.) by assessing its effects on multiple colorectal carcinoma cell lines. Wild strawberry phytochemicals were able to reduce SW480 cell viability by inducing cell cycle arrest and by promoting programmed cell death in E705 cells, with no toxicity on healthy colorectal ...
