Direct reaction of oximes with crotylsarin, cyclosarin, or VX in vitro [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Toxicology, 2006
The direct reaction of seven pyridinium oximes with the organophosphorus compounds (OPCs) crotylsarin, cyclosarin, and VX was studied by spectrophotometry. This method allows to quantify different parameters: (a) the half-life times (t (1/2)) of the oxime-OPC reactions on the basis of the changes in the absorption at the zwitterion (betaine) peak ...

Chemical Weapons in the Iran-Iraq War (1980–1988). 2. Combat Use of Chemical Weapons

open access: yesВестник войск РХБ защиты, 2023
The Iran-Iraq war (1980–1988) was the result of the geopolitical situation in the Middle East after the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979. Certain longstanding territorial disputes and the absence of mutually recognized state border between the rivalry ...

Molecular aspects of the reactivation process of acetylcholinesterase inhibited by cyclosarin [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Brazilian Chemical Society, 2011

Phosphonylated tyrosine and lysine residues as biomarkers of local exposure of human hair to the organophosphorus nerve agents sarin and VX

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 15, Issue 7, Page 730-744, July 2023., 2023
This is the first report addressing analysis of biomarker adducts obtained from human hair exposed to the nerve agents sarin and VX in vitro. Phosphonylated single amino acids were obtained after pronase‐catalyzed proteolysis of hair proteins. Adducted Lys and especially Tyr residues were the most prominent adducts detected by μLC‐ESI MS/HR MS.

Sex‐based structural and functional MRI outcomes in the rat brain after soman (GD) exposure‐induced status epilepticus

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 399-410, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Objective Exposure to the nerve agent, soman (GD), induces status epilepticus (SE), epileptogenesis, and even death. Although rodent models studying the pathophysiological mechanisms show females to be more reactive to soman, no tangible sex differences in brains postexposure have been reported.

Dysbiosis in gastrointestinal pathophysiology: Role of the gut microbiome in Gulf War Illness

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 27, Issue 7, Page 891-905, April 2023., 2023
Abstract Gulf War Illness (GWI) has been reported in 25%–35% of veterans returned from the Gulf war. Symptoms of GWI are varied and include both neurological and gastrointestinal symptoms as well as chronic fatigue. Development of GWI has been associated with chemical exposure particularly with exposure to pyridostigmine bromide (PB) and permethrin ...

EFFECTIVITY OF NEW ACETYLCHOLINESTERASE REACTIVATORS IN TREATMENT OF CYCLOSARIN POISONING IN MICE AND RATS [PDF]

open access: yesBiomedical Papers, 2005
The present study was performed to assess and compare a therapeutic efficacy of obidoxime, HI-6, BI-6 and HS-6 administered in equimolar doses and combined with atropine in cyclosarin-poisoned mice and rats. It was demonstrated that all the therapeutic regimens tested, were able to decrease the cyclosarin-induced toxicity significantly - at least 1.5 ...

Aminoalkoxy‐substituted coumarins: Synthesis and evaluation for reactivation of inhibited human acetylcholinesterase

open access: yesArchiv der Pharmazie, Volume 355, Issue 11, November 2022., 2022
Significant effort has been invested into the development of cholinesterase reactivators that are capable of treating organophosphorus poisoning. A series of 12 coumarin derivatives equipped with linker‐connected nonaromatic terminal amino moieties were prepared in this study.
