Induction of CYP1A1 by Serum Independent of AhR Pathway
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2000CYP1A1 is implicated in the bioactivation of procarcinogens such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. To date, no physiological compounds have been described as inducers of this gene. In this study, we have examined the role of serum in the regulation of CYP1A1 gene expression.

Picrotoxin Is a CYP1A1 Inducer in Rainbow Trout Hepatocytes
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1995Picrotoxin is a CYP2B inducer in mammals (1). However, in primary cultures of rainbow trout hepatocytes we showed CYP1A1 gene expression to be strongly induced as characterized by 7-ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase activity, immunoblots of CYP1A1 protein, and Northern blots of CYP1A1 mRNA.

Molecular Characteristics of Carbaryl, a CYP1A1 Gene Inducer
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2000Carbaryl belongs to a series of compounds that activate the CYP1A1 gene. This study demonstrates the inability of carbaryl to compete with 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin for binding to the rat aryl hydrocarbon (dioxin) receptor. Structural and physicochemical properties of this insecticide, in relation to the requirements for binding to the aryl ...

Pharmacogenetics, 2000
Cigarette smoking can induce CYP1A1 in the lung. Induction requires the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) and aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator (ARNT) proteins. Lung samples from seven of 75 Finnish patients who smoked until the time of surgery exhibited absent or low levels of CYP1A1 protein, mRNA and enzymatic activity, suggesting that ...

Genetic polymorphism of induction of CYP1A1 (EROD) activity
Pharmacogenetics, 1995CYP1A1 is a cytochrome P450 which is inducible by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). This induction is mediated via the Ahr locus which encodes the cytosolic Aryl hydrocarbon receptor. The induced activity of CYP1A1 can be measured in vitro by the ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) activity in lymphocytes after induction by benz(a)anthracene (B(a)

CYP1A1 plays an important role in the metabolism of polycyclic hydrocarbons that occur in the environment and several studies suggest that the genetic polymorphism of the gene may play a role in the predisposition to cancer. In order to evaluate the function of CYP1A1 in vivo as a host factor determinant of environmentally-caused cancers in humans ...

cDNA cloning and characterization of feline CYP1A1 and CYP1A2
Life Sciences, 2006Deficiency of drug glucuronidation in the cat is one of the major reasons why this animal is highly sensitive to the side effects of drugs. The characterization of cytochrome P450 isoforms belonging to the CYP1A subfamily, which exhibit important drug oxidation activities such as activation of pro-carcinogens, was investigated.

Serum increases CYP1A1 induction by 3-methylcholanthrene
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2002CYP1A1 is largely involved in carcinogenesis through the bioactivation of numerous procarcinogens. Exposure to environmental pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) leads to induction of CYP1A1 via AhR pathway. We have previously demonstrated that fetal bovine serum (FBS) induces CYP1A1 gene transcription.

Analysis of CYP1A1 promoter function by transcription in vitro
Molecular Carcinogenesis, 1991AbstractWe have analyzed the function of the CYP1A1 promoter using in vitro transcription. Using nuclear extracts from HeLa cells, we found that transcription from the promoter in vitro was constitutive. Transcription in vitro was not increased by prior exposure of the HeLa cells to the inducer 2,3,7,8‐tetrachlorodibenzo‐p‐dioxin nor by the inclusion ...

CYP1A1 polymorphism and risk of gynecological malignancy in Japan
International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, 2003The incidence of endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer in Japan has been increasing in recent years. Results of epidemiologic studies suggest that the onset and multiplication of these cancers are associated with estrogen. Estrogens are metabolized by cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) and converted into catecholestrogens, which are carcinogens.
