Role of NKG2D in cytokine-induced killer cells against multiple myeloma cells [PDF]

open access: yesCancer Biology & Therapy, 2012
The cytokine-induced killer cells (CIK) have been reported to have potent cytotoxicity against a variety of tumor cells including multiple myleoma (MM) cells. The mechanisms that CIK cell recognizing MM cells remain unknown. Recent studies indicated that the interaction between NKG2D receptor and NKG2D ligands plays an important role in inducing ...

Retrospective analysis of the efficacy of cytokine‐induced killer cell immunotherapy combined with first‐line chemotherapy in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer

open access: yesClinical & Translational Immunology, 2020
Objectives Fluoropyrimidine‐based chemotherapy regimens are the current first‐line treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC); however, the outcome is often unsatisfactory.

Photothermal‐Activated Antibacterial Amyloid‐Polyphenol‐Iron Hydrogels for Synergistic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We report a thermally triggered supramolecular hydrogel (LTFe) formed by Fe3+ and tannic acid on lysozyme amyloid fibrils. Fe3+ enables rapid gelation and photothermal transduction with an efficiency of 88.56%. The LTFe hydrogel exhibits excellent biocompatibility, potent antibacterial activity against E. coli and S.

Preclinical evaluation of DC-CIK cells as potentially effective immunotherapy model for the treatment of glioblastoma

open access: yesScientific Reports
Despite the favorable effects of immunotherapies in multiple types of cancers, its complete success in CNS malignancies remains challenging. Recently, a successful clinical trial of cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cell immunotherapy in patients with ...

Cord blood Vα24-Vβ11 natural killer T cells display a Th2-chemokine receptor profile and cytokine responses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: The fetal immune system is characterized by a Th2 bias but it is unclear how the Th2 predominance is established. Natural killer T (NKT) cells are a rare subset of T cells with immune regulatory functions and are already activated in utero ...

Immunoinflammatory Mechanisms and Biocompatibility of Bioactive Dental Biomaterials: From Fundamental Insights to Clinical Translation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface‐host dialogue at the implant interface governs biological fate and osseointegration. Surface physicochemical properties of titanium (Ti) dental implants, including microgrooves, nanopatterns, nanotopography, roughness, and wettability, modulate the initial adsorption of proteins and the formation of a dynamic biointerface.

Evolution of cell therapy for renal cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Cancer
Treatment for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has improved dramatically over the last decade, shifting from high-dose cytokine therapy in combination with surgical resection of tumors to targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and combination therapies.

One Single Site Clinical Study: To Evaluate the Safety and Efficacy of Immunotherapy With Autologous Dendritic Cells, Cytokine-Induced Killer Cells in Primary Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
Dendritic cells (DCs) and cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells play an important role in the anti-tumor immune response. In this study, we evaluated the clinical effectiveness of DC/CIK-CD24 immunotherapies to primary hepatocellular carcinoma patients who

Characterisation and ontogeny of natural killer cells in Xenopus laevis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The initial aim of the work described in this Thesis was to investigate the lymphoid organ distribution, phenotype and function of the lymphocyte population identified by candidate anti-Xenopus natural killer (NK) cell monoclonal antibodies (mAb's ...

Identification of a protein associated with the activity of cytokine‑induced killer cells

open access: yesOncology Letters, 2017
Cytokine-induced killer cells (CIKs) adoptive immunotherapy for efficient antitumor ability is used clinically, but details regarding the proteins associated with CIK activity remain unclear. In the current study, the cytotoxicity of CIKs on hepatoma was identified to be significantly downregulated by 1.61-fold following gentamincin treatment.
