In vitro Cytotoxicity in Delayed-Type Hypersensitivity and Immunologic Tolerance.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1964
SummaryPicryl chloride was found to exert a lethal effect in vitro on leukocytes, principally lymphocytes, from guinea pigs exhibiting delayed-type skin reactivity to this hapten in the absence of antibody and complement. This reaction was found to be immunologically specific.

Genetic Modification of Limbal Stem Cells to Decrease Allogeneic Immune Responses

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
Limbal stem cell (LSC) transplantation is the only efficient treatment for patients affected by LSC deficiency (LSCD). Allogeneic LSC transplantation is one of the most successful alternative for patients with bilateral LSCD.

In Vitro Analysis of the Proliferation of HaCaT Cells Stimulated by Pigments Used for Maxillofacial Prostheses

open access: yesJournal of Orofacial Sciences, 2019
Introduction: Although physical and mechanical properties are extremely important for the effectiveness of prosthetic treatment, materials used for facial rehabilitation should be biocompatible, as the maxillofacial prosthesis is in close contact with ...

NKp46 clusters at the immune synapse and regulates NK cell polarization

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2015
Natural killer cells play an important role in first-line defense against tumor and virus-infected cells. The activity of NK cells is tightly regulated by a repertoire of cell-surface expressed inhibitory and activating receptors.

Negative Regulation and Protective Function of Natural Killer Cells in HIV Infection: Two Sides of a Coin

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Natural killer (NK) cells play an important immunologic role, targeting tumors and virus-infected cells; however, NK cells do not impede the progression of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.

Cytotoxic Isoantibodies and Immunologic Enhancement in Mice.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1966
Summary1. Cytotoxic isoantibodies and hemagglutinins are stimulated in response to H-2 isoantigenic differences between graft and host in mice. 2. This study offers data correlating cytotoxic isoantibody and immunological enhancement. 3. The mechanism of immunological enhancement has been shown to be associated with peripheral as well as central ...

The Biological Influence and Clinical Relevance of Polymorphism Within the NKG2D Ligands

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
NKG2D is a major regulator of the activity of cytotoxic cells and interacts with eight different ligands (NKG2DL) from two families of MIC and ULBP proteins.

Immune modulation of i.v. immunoglobulin in women with reproductive failure

open access: yesReproductive Medicine and Biology, 2018
Background The mechanism of maternal immune tolerance of the semi‐allogenic fetus has been explored extensively. The immune reaction to defend from invasion by pathogenic microorganisms should be maintained during pregnancy.

Cx43-Gap Junctions Accumulate at the Cytotoxic Immunological Synapse Enabling Cytotoxic T Lymphocyte Melanoma Cell Killing [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2019
Upon tumor antigen recognition, cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and target cells form specialized supramolecular structures, called cytotoxic immunological synapses, which are required for polarized delivery of cytotoxic granules. In previous reports, we described the accumulation of connexin 43 (Cx43)-formed gap junctions (GJs) at natural killer (NK ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.
