Analysis of mRNA decapping.

Methods in enzymology, 2009
The modulation of mRNA decay is a critical determinant in the regulation of gene expression. mRNAs in eukaryotes are primarily degraded by two major exonucleolytic pathways: the 5' to 3'-and the 3' to 5'-pathways, both of which are initiated by removal of the polyadenylated (poly(A)) tail.

Premature translational termination triggers mRNA decapping

Nature, 1994
The degradation of messenger RNA in eukaryotic cells is initiated by endonucleolytic cleavage or by shortening of the poly(A) tail, which for some mRNAs activates a deadenylation-dependent decapping reaction. One type of rapid mRNA degradation in eukaryotes is caused by premature termination of translation.

RNA decapping inside and outside of processing bodies

Current Opinion in Cell Biology, 2005
Decapping is a central step in eukaryotic mRNA turnover. Recent studies have identified several factors involved in catalysis and regulation of decapping. These include the following: an mRNA decapping complex containing the proteins Dcp1 and Dcp2; a nucleolar decapping enzyme, X29, involved in the degradation of U8 snoRNA and perhaps of other capped ...

Gravity perception in decapped roots of Zea mays

Planta, 1982
Time-lapse photography and light microscopy were used to determine whether or not sedimentation of the newly developed amyloplasts in the apex of Zea mays L. roots occurred at the time when geotropic responsiveness reappears following removal of the cap.

Regulation of mammalian mRNA decapping

2011
The modulation of mRNA degradation plays a critical role for regulation of gene expression. A major mRNA decay pathway in mammals proceeding from the 5' to 3' end is initiated with shortening of 3' poly (A) tail, followed by the cleavage of the 5' cap structure (decapping) and degradation of the mRNA body by the Xrn1 exoribonuclease.
