Mast Cell Degranulation in Fixed Preparations.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1965
SummaryThe present study indicates that significant morphological changes in mast cell size, shape, and granule size can occur following conventional fixation, and that these fixed cells are also particularly prone to damage by mechanical manipulations inherent in standard histological techniques.

Early Origins of Asthma and Allergies: Clues From Studies in China

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Allergy, EarlyView.
The environment we live in harbours both risk and protective factors for asthma and allergies. This is particularly relevant in China, where unique environmental and cultural factors shape disease development. The interplay between these environmental factors, airway immunity, and gut microbiome shapes the susceptibility to asthma and allergies ...

Assessment of Patients With Beta‐Lactams Positive Provocation Tests by Biomarkers of IgG‐Related Neutrophil Activation

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Allergy, EarlyView.
Neutrophil activation in beta‐lactams (BL) immediate hypersensitivity reactions (IHR). Factor component analysis of IHR biomarkers suggests an IgG‐mediated mechanism. We propose Neutrophil Elastase as a biomarker of neutrophil activation in BL IHR. ABSTRACT Background Beta‐lactams (BLs) are the predominant cause of immediate allergic reactions to drugs.

Towards Personalised Therapy in Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria: Advancing From Endotype to Clinical Response

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Allergy, EarlyView.
Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is a debilitating skin disorder with significant impact upon quality of life. Current guidelines advocate stepwise treatment of standard dose antihistamines, high dose antihistamines, omalizumab and ciclosporin.

Lactate and Lactylation in AKI‐to‐CKD: Epigenetic Regulation and Therapeutic Opportunities

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lactate is not only a byproduct of glycolysis, but is also considered an energy source, gluconeogenic precursor, signalling molecule and protein modifier during the process of cellular metabolism. The discovery of lactylation reveals the multifaceted functions of lactate in cellular metabolism and opens new avenues for lactate‐related research.
