Ventral body wall closure: Mechanistic insights from mouse models and translation to human pathology

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, Volume 254, Issue 2, Page 102-141, February 2025.
Abstract The ventral body wall (VBW) that encloses the thoracic and abdominal cavities arises by extensive cell movements and morphogenetic changes during embryonic development. These morphogenetic processes include embryonic folding generating the primary body wall; the initial ventral cover of the embryo, followed by directed mesodermal cell ...

Specific inhibition of binding of antistasin and [A103,106,108] antistasin 93–119 to sulfatide (Gal(3-SO4)β1-1Cer) by glycosaminoglycans [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Leech-derived antistasin is a potent anticoagulant and antimetastatic protein that binds sulfatide (Gal(3-SO4)β1-1Cer)and sulfated polysaccharides. In this study, the synthetic fragment [A103,106,108] antistasin 93–119, which corresponds to the carboxyl ...

Bioactive scaffolds for tissue engineering: A review of decellularized extracellular matrix applications and innovations

open access: yesExploration, Volume 5, Issue 1, February 2025.
We conducted a critical evaluation of decellularization techniques, quality control, cross‐linking, and modification methods for dECM scaffolds derived from different sources. The functional properties of dECM components as well as their recent applications in multi‐organ tissue engineering and biomedicine were thoroughly reviewed.

Formation of dermatan sulfate by cultured human skin fibroblasts. Effects of sulfate concentration on proportions of dermatan/chondroitin.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1986
[3H,35S]Dermatan/chondroitin sulfate glycosaminoglycans produced during culture of fibroblasts in medium containing varying concentrations of sulfate were tested for their susceptibility to chondroitin ABC lyase and chondroitin AC lyase. Chondroitin ABC lyase completely degraded [3H]hexosamine-labeled and [35S] sulfate-labeled dermatan/chondroitin ...

Analysis of Oversulfation in a Chondroitin Sulfate Oligosaccharide Fraction from Bovine Aorta by Nanoelectrospray Ionization Quadrupole Time-of-Flight and Fourier-Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A combination of negative ion nano-electrospray ionization Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance and quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry was applied to analysis of oversulfation in glycosaminoglycan oligosaccharides of the chondroitin sulfate

Effect of pH, surface charge and counter-ions on the adsorption of sodium dodecyl sulfate to the sapphire/solution interface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The role of ionic interactions between sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS, and sapphire surfaces have been studied using specular neutron reflection to determine the structure and composition of adsorbed surfactant layers. Increasing the pH of the solution from 3 to 9 reduces the adsorption by reversing the charge of the alumina.

Vascular endothelial cell injury: causes, molecular mechanisms, and treatments

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 2, February 2025.
Endothelial cell injury is considered a critical initiating factor in the pathogenesis of various diseases, triggered by multiple factors such as disturbed shear stress and mechanical injury, environmental toxins, metabolic disorders, bacterial/viral infections, and dyslipidemia.

Expression of Glycosaminoglycans and Small Proteoglycans in Wounds: Modulation by the Tripeptide–Copper Complex Glycyl-L-Histidyl-L-Lysine-Cu2+ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Glycyl-histidyl-lysine-Cu2+ is a tripeptide–copper complex previously shown to be an activator of wound healing. We have investigated the effects of glycyl-histidyl-lysine-Cu2+ on the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans and small proteoglycans in a model of ...

Identification and Signature Sequences of Bacterial Δ4,5Hexuronate-2-O-Sulfatases

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) sulfatases, which catalyze the hydrolysis of sulfate esters from GAGs, belong to a large and conserved sulfatase family. Bacterial GAG sulfatases are essential in the process of sulfur cycling and are useful for the structural ...
