The Cajal body (CB) is a subnuclear domain that participates in the biogenesis of many different types of ribonucleoproteins (RNPs), including small nuclear RNPs (snRNPs), small Cajal body-specific RNPs (scaRNPs) and telomerase. Most scaRNAs, the RNA component of scaRNPs, accumulate in CBs.

Canonical RNA activation involves small RNAs interacting with promoter sequences, but there is also evidence of non‐canonical RNAa in eukaryotes. Emerging evidence suggests the presence of RNAa in insects. RNAa can be utilised as a tool for functional genomic studies in insects.

Isoleucyl‐tRNA synthetase 2 (IARS2) stabilizes β‐catenin by reducing its phosphorylation at Ser33/37/Thr41 and ubiquitin‐proteasome degradation, thereby promoting β‐catenin nuclear accumulation and transcriptional activation of downstream targets, including inhibitor of DNA binding 3, lactate dehydrogenase A, and Drosha ribonuclease III.

A multifunctional protein EWS regulates the expression of Drosha and microRNAs [PDF]
EWS (Ewing's Sarcoma) gene encodes an RNA/DNA-binding protein that is ubiquitously expressed and involved in various cellular processes. EWS deficiency leads to impaired development and early senescence through unknown mechanisms. We found that EWS regulates the expression of Drosha and microRNAs (miRNAs).
