Effects of ellagitannin-rich berries on blood lipids, gut microbiota, and urolithin production in human subjects with symptoms of metabolic syndrome

open access: yes, 2013
Ellagitannins are polyphenols abundant in strawberries, raspberries, and cloudberries. The effects of a mixture of these berries were studied in a randomized controlled trial with subjects having symptoms of metabolic syndrome. The study focused on serum

Identification and characterization of early pathway genes of ellagitannin biosynthesis in strawberry (Fragaria vesca) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Ellagitannins are polyphenolic antioxidants found in certain fruits, trees, tea and medicinal plants. In many fruits, such as strawberries, raspberries, blackberries or pomegranate, ellagitannins, besides anthocyanins, are the most abundant ...

Enzymatic oxidation of ellagitannin and a new ellagitannin metabolite from Camellia japonica leaves

open access: yesEnzymatic oxidation of ellagitannin and a new ellagitannin metabolite from Camellia japonica leaves
Polyphenols in the leaves of Camellia japonica L. at different stages of growth were analyzed by HPLC. Pedunculagin [2,3; 4,6-bis-(S)-hexahydroxydiphenoyl-D-glucose] was the major polyphenol in the youngest leaves. The levels of this compound and (+)-catechin decreased as the leaves matured.

Stereochemical revision of brevipetins E and F: ellagitannin dimers with opposite hexahydroxydiphenoyl atropisomerism

open access: yes
Brevipetins E and F, ellagitannin dimers from Cleidion brevipetiolatum, were originally reported to bear both a 3,4-(Ra)-hexahydroxydiphenoyl (HHDP)-glucopyranose and a 3,4-(Ra)-HHDP-rhamnopyranose moiety. However, a detailed reevaluation of the reported
