Structure of the γ-D-glutamyl-L-diamino acid endopeptidase YkfC from Bacillus cereus in complex with L-Ala-γ-D-Glu: insights into substrate recognition by NlpC/P60 cysteine peptidases. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Dipeptidyl-peptidase VI from Bacillus sphaericus and YkfC from Bacillus subtilis have both previously been characterized as highly specific γ-D-glutamyl-L-diamino acid endopeptidases. The crystal structure of a YkfC ortholog from Bacillus cereus (BcYkfC)

Proximity‐Induced Transfer of a Mass Tag Enables Direct Profiling of Active Matrix Metalloproteases

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A proximity‐induced, mass‐encoded activity‐based protein profiling (ABPP) approach transfers a MALDI‐detectable α‐cyano‐4‐hydroxycinnamic acid (CHCA) tag directly to active proteases. This tag enables the direct, multiplexed, and quantitative detection of enzyme activity in complex proteomes without enrichment or purification.

The O-carbamoyl-transferase albis is responsible for the modification of albicidin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Albicidin is a potent antibiotic and phytotoxin produced by the sugarcane pathogenic bacterium Xanthomonas albilineans which targets the plant and bacterial DNA gyrase.[1] The infection occurs through the xylem vessels of the plants where the pathogen ...

The Cell Wall Hydrolytic NlpC/P60 Endopeptidases in Mycobacterial Cytokinesis: A Structural Perspective

open access: yesCells, 2019
In preparation for division, bacteria replicate their DNA and segregate the newly formed chromosomes. A division septum then assembles between the chromosomes, and the mother cell splits into two identical daughters due to septum degradation.

Ankyrin-mediated self-protection during cell invasion by the bacterial predator Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Predatory Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus are natural antimicrobial organisms, killing other bacteria by whole-cell invasion. Self-protection against prey-metabolizing enzymes is important for the evolution of predation.

The astacin metalloprotease moulting enzyme NAS-36 is required for normal cuticle ecdysis in free-living and parasitic nematodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Nematodes represent one of the most abundant and species-rich groups of animals on the planet, with parasitic species causing chronic, debilitating infections in both livestock and humans worldwide. The prevalence and success of the nematodes is a direct

Characterization of endopeptidases from the midgut of Morimus funereus (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) larvae [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2008
Application of specific chromogenic substrates, use of class-specific inhibitors, and zymogram analysis enabled us to identify several peptidase classes in extracts of the midgut of Morimus funereus larvae.
