Putative Mechanisms for Initial Reaction of Anaerobic Benzene Degradation Presumably Involving a Flavoprotein

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 8, August 2026.
Anaerobic biodegradation of benzene by sulphate‐reducing strain BzS1 was studied by combining genomics, differential proteomics and targeted metabolite analyses. Strain BzS1 has an exceptionally streamlined metabolism. A highly abundant heterotrimeric flavoprotein may add benzene to either enolpyruvate or glutaconyl‐CoA followed by channelling into the

Testing for Contagion in International Financial Markets: To See More, Go Higher

open access: yesFinancial Review, Volume 61, Issue 3, Page 725-763, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Traditional measures of financial contagion rely on correlation shifts, overlooking higher moments such as skewness and kurtosis. We examine contagion during two major financial crises, incorporating lower‐ and higher‐moment measures. We analyze stock market returns from 22 major markets at different frequencies, offering a global perspective ...

Calcium and Nitrogen Availability Controls Root Exudation in Hydroponically Cultured Barley

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 8, Page 5210-5227, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Root exudation is a key component of plant‐rhizosphere interactome. It is increasingly evident that root exudates influence rhizospheric microbial communities and in turn can benefit plants through improved resource allocation. However, how suboptimal nutrient availability relates to control of root exudation is poorly understood.

Conflicts Over Wage Floors: What Led to Minimum Wage Increases in the US States Between 2013 and 2022?

open access: yesPolitics &Policy, Volume 54, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT After 2013, the number of statewide minimum wage increases in the United States surged. However, not every state followed the trend. Some refrained from minimum wage legislation completely. This article examines the causes of differences in state minimum wage policies from 2013 to 2022, taking a qualitative perspective on minimum wage politics

Azurins With Tunable Reduction Potentials as Redox Mediators for Extracellular Electron Transfer

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 14, 29 July 2026.
Electroactive microbe Shewanella oneidensis reduced non‐native electron transfer protein, azurin, via extracellular electron transfer (EET) with dependence on azurin redox potential. Utilizing azurin in EET‐driven bio‐(electro)catalysis improved fuel cell current and accelerated textile dye decolorization.
