Impact of conductive magnetite nanoparticles and anode polarization on glucose fermentation

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 101, Issue 5, Page 1027-1034, May 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Electrically conductive materials and electrochemical stimulation strategies are increasingly explored to steer microbial fermentation towards desired metabolic outputs. These approaches also hold remarkable potential to couple wastewater treatment (WWT) to the production of value‐added compounds, in turn enhancing environmental ...

May I pick your brain? Local minds as living cadastres in a Portuguese eleventh‐century lawsuit

open access: yesEarly Medieval Europe, Volume 34, Issue 2, Page 231-253, May 2026.
In the context of a dispute with the monastery of Lorvão, in the late eleventh century, the monks of Vacariça, near Coimbra (modern Portugal), carried out a field enquiry in the village of Recardães. This was part of a failed attempt to repossess a number of land plots that they claimed were theirs, but had lost control of.

Using miniaturized laboratory equipment and DNA barcoding to improve conservation genetics training and identify illegally traded species

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Illegal wildlife trade (IWT) is one of the largest global illegal activities, and it negatively affects biodiversity and sustainable development worldwide. DNA barcoding coupled with high‐throughput sequencing (i.e., metabarcoding) is useful in identifying taxa affected by IWT and has been used routinely for decades.

New Media Ecologies, Old Occupational Subjectivities and Practices: Tensions and Contradictions in Online Crowdfunding for the Arts in the Netherlands

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, Volume 127, Issue 4, Page 796-806, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Many artists in Europe now turn to online crowdfunding to fund their creative practices against the backdrop of cuts in state‐funded subsidies for the arts. Based on an ethnographic analysis of online crowdfunding in the Netherlands, I suggest that this neoliberal context requires artists to cultivate occupational subjectivities and practices ...

Passion, Perfectionism, and Sports Commitment as Predictors of Exercise Addiction

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 25, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Exercise addiction is studied along with behavioral addictions but has no diagnostic criteria mainly because dysfunctional cases have incomparable etiologies, and research is based on a presumed risk assessment that may never turn into dysfunction.

Interleukin‐11 promotes lung adenocarcinoma tumourigenesis and immune evasion

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
IL‐11 drives tumour progression and is linked to poor survival in lung adenocarcinoma patients, as well as an immunosuppressive tumour microenvironment. Antibody targeting of the IL‐11 receptor (IL‐11RA) shows significant anti‐tumour effects in a patient‐derived xenograft model highlighting IL‐11 as a compelling therapeutic target.
