Comparison of fractionation techniques to obtain prebiotic galactooligosaccharides
Four different fractionation techniques for obtaining galactooligosaccharides (GOS) free from digestible carbohydrates were compared. Diafiltration did not show any selectivity among mono-, di- and oligosaccharides, whereas yeast treatment to remove monosaccharides allowed a high recovery of GOS and disaccharides.

Rheology of Prebiotic Chocolate [PDF]
Galactooligosaccharide (GOS) is a carbohydrate that has been identified as a prebiotic and is being investigated to have health benefits. Prebiotics are poorly digested ingredients that selectively increase the limited number of beneficial bacterial ...

Fermentable oligosaccharides, di- and monosaccharides, and polyols defined as FODMAPs readily trigger the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which affects up to 23% of the population, through several mechanisms. A low-FODMAP diet is a short-term

Role of the microbiome in human development. [PDF]
The host-microbiome supraorganism appears to have coevolved and the unperturbed microbial component of the dyad renders host health sustainable. This coevolution has likely shaped evolving phenotypes in all life forms on this predominantly microbial ...

Pre- and pro-biotics may improve mineral absorption and retention in the growing male rat : a thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Nutritional Science at Massey University, Turitea, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]
Probiotics are bacteria, which reside in the large intestine and concur beneficial health effects on their host. Their abundance can be selectively-stimulated by prebiotics, such as fructo-oligosaccharide (FOS); prebiotics are oligosaccharides, which are
