In vitro markers for virulence in Yersinia ruckeri [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this study, different traits that have been associated with bacterial virulence were studied in Yersinia ruckeri. Two isolates that had been shown to cause disease and mortality in experimentally infected rainbow trout were compared with five ...

Decoding Undesirable Inflammatory Responses of Nucleic Acid‐Delivering Lipid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) enable efficient nucleic acid delivery, but their immunogenicity is a double‐edged sword. This review explores LNP‐driven innate and adaptive immunity, covering lipid components, endosomal escape, and nucleic acid sensing.

The hepatic sympathetic nerve plays a critical role in preventing Fas induced liver injury in mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background: Although previous studies have shown that the hepatic sympathetic nerve controls various physiological functions in the liver, the role of this nerve in liver injury has yet to be clarified.Aims: The purpose of this study was to elucidate the

Advancements in Mass Spectrometry‐Based Glycomics in Food and Nutritional Science

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This review highlights advancements in mass spectrometry (MS)‐based glycomics in food and nutritional science. Carbohydrates, which are vital for human health, exhibit complex structures, making their analysis challenging. MS has become an indispensable tool for elucidating the structures of carbohydrates, including glycans, through soft ...

Liquid Chromatography with Electrospray Ionization and Tandem Mass Spectrometry Applied in the Quantitative Analysis of Chitin-Derived Glucosamine for a Rapid Estimation of Fungal Biomass in Soil

open access: yesInternational Journal of Analytical Chemistry, 2016
This method employs liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to rapidly quantify chitin-derived glucosamine for estimating fungal biomass. Analyte retention was achieved using hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography, with a zwitter-ionic ...

Hepatoprotective effect of pentoxifylline against D-galactosamine-induced hepatotoxicity in rats

open access: yesAnnals of Hepatology, 2009
The present study was conducted to investigate effect of pentoxifylline (PTX) on acute liver injury caused by galactosamine (D-Gal) in rats and the underlying mechanism involved in this setting.

Enzymic phosphorylation of galactosamine and galactose [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1953
Abstract The transfer of phosphate from adenosine triphosphate to galactosamine was found to be catalyzed by a liver enzyme. On the basis of the parallel distribution and from crossed inhibition experiments, it is suggested that the enzyme may be galactokinase. The optimum conditions for activity and a method for partial purification are described.

Depth‐dependent mechanisms regulate accumulation of plant‐ and microbial‐derived residues under long‐term nitrogen addition in a semiarid grassland

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Plant‐ and microbial‐derived residues constitute the primary sources of soil organic carbon (SOC) in grassland ecosystems. However, their differential responses to chronic nitrogen (N) enrichment and the depth‐dependent mechanisms governing their accumulation remain ...

Carbohydrate receptor-mediated gene transfer to human T leukaemic cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
The mucin-type carbohydrate Tn cryptantigen (GalNAcα1-O-Ser/Thr, where GalNAc is N-acetyl-D-galactosamine) is expressed in many carcinomas, in haemopoietic disorders including the Tn syndrome, and on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) coat glycoproteins,
