Alpha-galactosylceramide enhances mucosal immunity to oral whole-cell cholera vaccines

open access: yesMucosal Immunology, 2019
Cholera is a severe diarrheal disease caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae (V. cholerae) that results in 3–4 million cases globally with 100,000–150,000 deaths reported annually. Mostly confined to developing nations, current strategies to control the

Invariant NKT cells and rheumatic disease: Focus on primary sjogren syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Primary Sjogren syndrome (pSS) is a complex autoimmune disease mainly affecting salivary and lacrimal glands. Several factors contribute to pSS pathogenesis; in particular, innate immunity seems to play a key role in disease etiology.

Prophylaxis of lipopolysaccharide-induced shock by α-galactosylceramide [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Leukocyte Biology, 2008
AbstractThe NKT cell ligand α-galactosylceramide and its synthetic homologue KRN7000 stimulate rapid and copious secretion of IFN-γ and TNF-α release, both of which are key mediators of LPS-induced shock. We showed that KRN7000, injected before or within 2 h after LPS challenge, was able to prevent endotoxic shock.

HIV-1-Specific IgA Monoclonal Antibodies from an HIV-1 Vaccinee Mediate Galactosylceramide Blocking and Phagocytosis

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2018
Vaccine-elicited humoral immune responses comprise an array of antibody forms and specificities, with only a fraction contributing to protective host immunity.

Programmable Antigen‐Specific Immunity via Self‐Adjuvanting Nanovaccines Co‐Delivering Immune Modulators

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 11, 9 March 2026.
The self‐adjuvanting vaccine—comprising a covalent conjugate of antigen and adjuvant—was formulated into cationic lipid nanoparticles smaller than 100 nm to facilitate uptake by immune cells, with supplemental adjuvants incorporated to modulate immune responses.

Functional invariant natural killer T-cell and CD1d axis in chronic lymphocytic leukemia: implications for immunotherapy

open access: yesHaematologica, 2013
Invariant natural killer T cells recognize glycolipid antigens such as α-galactosylceramide presented by CD1d. In preclinical models of B-cell malignancies, α-galactosylceramide is an adjuvant to tumor vaccination, enhancing tumor-specific T-cell ...

Simultaneous quantification of lyso-neutral glycosphingolipids and neutral glycosphingolipids by N-acetylation with [3H]acetic anhydride

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2003
We describe a new method that permits quantification in the pmol to nmol range of three lyso-neutral glycosphingolipids (lyso-n-GSLs), glucosylsphingosine (GlcSph), galactosylsphingosine (GalSph), and lactosylsphingosine, in the same sample as neutral ...

A Myelin Proteolipid Protein-LacZ Fusion Protein Is Developmentally Regulated and Targeted to the Myelin Membrane in Transgenic Mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Transgenic mice were generated with a fusion gene carrying a portion of the murine myelin proteolipid protein (PLP) gene, including the first intron, fused to the E. coli LacZ gene.

Serpinb1a Is Dispensable for the Development and Cytokine Response of Invariant Natural Killer T Cell Subsets

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
Invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells are innate-like T lymphocytes. They quickly respond to antigenic stimulation by producing copious amounts of cytokines and chemokines.

Proliferation and Directional Differentiation of iNKT Cells Derived from DBA/1 Mice Thymus

open access: yesIranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, 2021
The rates of invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells in vivo are very low, and the amounts of cells obtained directly from the body are hard enough to fulfill their potential in clinical application.
