Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Why strengthening gap junctions may hinder action potential propagation

open access: yesFrontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics
Gap junctions are channels in cell membranes allowing ions to pass directly between cells. They are found throughout the body, including heart myocytes, neurons, and astrocytes. In cardiac tissue and throughout the nervous system, an action potential (AP)

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Connexin36 knockout mice display increased sensitivity to pentylenetetrazol-induced seizure-like behaviors

open access: yes, 2010
Large-scale synchronous firing of neurons during seizures is modulated by electrotonic coupling between neurons via gap junctions. To explore roles for connexin36 (Cx36) gap junctions in seizures, we examined the seizure threshold of connexin36 knockout (

Hypoxia and Proton microbeams: Role of Gap Junction Intercellular Communication in Inducing Bystander Responses on Human Lung Cancer Cells and Normal Cells

open access: yes, 2021
Hypoxia plays an important role in the development of malignant solid tumor and is associated with therapeutic resistance and poor outcome treatment. This condition may be due to the ability of hypoxic cells to influence bystander response through gap ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Gap junction protein connexin43 exacerbates lung vascular permeability. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Increased vascular permeability causes pulmonary edema that impairs arterial oxygenation and thus contributes to morbidity and mortality associated with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and sepsis.

Down-regulation of Connexin 43 mRNA in Mouse Hearts after Myocardial Infarction

open access: yes, 2003
2003-12Gap junction remodeling have been reported in various types of heart disease. Information available for the gap junction remodeling after myocardial infarction is still limited. In the present study, we investigated mRNA expression of connexin 43 (

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Dense gap-junction connections support dynamic Turing structures in the cortex

open access: yes, 2007
An open access copy of this article is available and complies with the copyright holder/publisher conditions. The recent report by Fukuda et al [1] provides convincing evidence for dense gap-junction connectivity between inhibitory neurons in the cat ...
