Diacerein Disrupts Testicular Homeostasis: The Essential Role of Basal Cytokines in Maintaining Sertoli Cell Integrity and the Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pro‐inflammatory cytokines, TNF and IL‐1B, are essential for testicular homeostasis. Diacerein, an anti‐inflammatory drug, inhibits these cytokines, impairing M2 macrophages and Leydig cells (LCs). However, its impact on Sertoli cells (SCs) and M1 (CD68) macrophages remains unknown.

Altered translation initiation ofGja1limits gap junction formation during epithelial–mesenchymal transition

open access: yes, 2018
Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) is activated during development, wound healing, and pathologies including fibrosis and cancer metastasis. Hallmarks of EMT are remodeling of intercellular junctions and adhesion proteins, including gap junctions ...

MiR-130a-3p regulates FUNDC1-mediated mitophagy by targeting GJA1 in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury

open access: yesCell Death Discovery, 2023
Understanding the complex pathogenesis in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury (IRI) is an urgent problem in clinical trials. Increasing pieces of evidence have suggested that miRNAs are involved in the occurrence and development of heart ...

Itgb1‐Mediated Stabilization of Vimentin Alleviates Excessive Mechanical Stress‐Induced Nucleus Pulposus Cell Pyroptosis and Intervertebral Disc Degeneration via PINK1‐Parkin‐Dependent Mitophagy

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Excessive mechanical stress induces nucleus pulposus cell pyroptosis and intervertebral disc degeneration. Itgb1 inhibits MNAT1‐mediated ubiquitination and degradation of Vimentin. Vimentin alleviates excessive mechanical stress‐induced nucleus pulposus cell pyroptosis and intervertebral disc degeneration through PINK1‐Parkin‐dependent mitophagy ...

Phosphoproteomic analysis and protein-protein interaction of rat aorta GJA1 and rat heart FKBP1A after secoiridoids consumption from virgin olive oil: A functional proteomics approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Protein functional interactions could explain the biological response of secoiridoids (SECs), main phenolic compounds in virgin olive oil (VOO). The aim was to assess protein¿protein interactions (PPIs) of the aorta gap junction alpha-1 (GJA1) and the ...

Derivation of Mouse Dome‐Shaped Trophoblast Stem Cells With Low Heterogeneity From Blastocysts

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Here, Liu et al. report the generation of mouse dome‐shaped trophoblast stem cells (dTSCs) with low heterogeneity and autonomous differentiation potential. dTSCs robustly generate all trophoblast lineages in vitro and contribute to the placenta in vivo, providing a refined model for studying trophoblast development and related disorders.

Comprehensive Pan-Cancer Analysis of Connexin 43 as a Potential Biomarker and Therapeutic Target in Human Kidney Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma (KIRC)

open access: yesMedicina
Background and Objectives: Connexin 43 (Cx43) is involved in the transfer of small signaling molecules between neighboring cells, thereby exerting a major influence on the initiation and progression of tumorigenesis.

GJA1 promotes hepatocellular carcinoma progression by mediating TGF-β-induced activation and the epithelial–mesenchymal transition of hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesOpen Medicine, 2021
Gap junction protein, alpha 1 (GJA1), which is correlated with recurrences and unfavorable prognoses in hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), is one of the specific proteins expressed by activated hepatic stellate cells (HSCs).

Chd4 and ThPOK cooperate to preserve structural and electrophysiological integrity of the adult heart through Sprr1a repression

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Chd4/NuRD and ThPOK cooperate to maintain transcriptional repression and nuclear organization in adult cardiomyocytes. Chd4 loss reduces miR‐150‐5p, relieving repression of Sprr1a, while ThPOK loss further enhances Sprr1a activation, possibly through altered chromatin–lamina interactions.
