Thioredoxin and Glutathione Systems

open access: yes, 2021
Most cancer cells contain high levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which result in higher expression levels of the glutathione and thioredoxin reductase systems. These antioxidant systems convert ROS to nonharmful compounds and they also reduce disulfide bonds in oxidized proteins.

EFFECT OF N-ACETYLCYSTEINE ON APOPTOSIS OF P19 CANCER CELLS DURING HYPOXIA

open access: yesСибирский онкологический журнал, 2020
Introduction. Hypoxia in tumor growth contributes to mitochondrial dysfunction and exacerbates oxidative stress in the immortalized cell. The objective of the study was to investigate the molecular mechanisms of the effects of N-acetylcysteine on redox ...

Mitochondrial thiol-disulfide system under acute hypoxia and hypoxic-hyperoxic adaptation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Ukrainian Biochemical Journal, 2014
The authors investigated the state of mitochondrial glutathione pool (reduced and oxidized glutathione, protein-GSH mixed disulfides), content of carbonyl groups and free sulfhydryl groups of proteins, protein expression of key mitochondrial antioxidant ...

Glutathione System in Sleep Disorders (Literature Review)

open access: yesActa Biomedica Scientifica, 2021
This review examines the variability of the glutathione system in sleep pathologies. Modern sleep theory assumes a restorative sleep function, including active utilization of oxidants and protection from excessive oxidation.

Cell signalling and the glutathione redox system [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Pharmacology, 2002
The reduction/oxidation (redox) state of the cell is a consequence of the balance between the levels of oxidising and reducing equivalents. A reducing intracellular environment is often associated with cell survival; however, redox unbalance is necessary since it represents a regulatory sensor for several nuclear transcription factors.

Protein Glutathionylation and Glutaredoxin: Role in Neurodegenerative Diseases

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2022
Oxidative stress has been implicated in the pathogenesis and progression of many neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

Evaluation of Glutathione (GSH) System in Porcine Saliva: Validation and Application of Colorimetric Method

open access: yesAntioxidants
(1) Reduced glutathione (GSH) is considered the first line of antioxidant defense. During oxidative stress, it is oxidized to glutathione disulphide (GSSG).

Diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of indicators of glutathione antioxidant system in spermatozoa of infertile men with different forms of pathospermia

open access: yesБіологічні студії
Background. One of the most important antioxidant defence mechanism in spermatozoa is the gluthatione system which includes glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione S-transferase (GST) and reduced glutathione (GSH).

THE ROLE OF PROTEIN OXIDATIVE MODIFICATION IN REDOX-REGULATION OF CASPASE-3 ACTIVITY IN BLOOD LYMPHOCYTES DURING OXIDATIVE STRESS IN VITRO

open access: yesБюллетень сибирской медицины, 2015
The formation of oxidative stress lies at the heart of many frequent and socially-important diseases. Blood lymphocytes are the cells which provide immunological control of our organism.
