Prevention of Protein Glycation by Natural Compounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Non-enzymatic protein glycosylation (glycation) contributes to many diseases and aging of organisms. It can be expected that inhibition of glycation may prolong the lifespan.

Production of advanced glycation end products from the glycosylation of avian serum albumin

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2007
Sustained, elevated plasma glucose concentrations in mammals (humans) leads to the glycosylation of serum albumin in a non‐enzymatic reaction. Through a series of chemical re‐arrangements of the glycated albumin, advanced glycation end products (AGEs) form that lead to the pathologies characteristic of Type 2 diabetes.

Growth differentiation factor‐15 and N‐terminal pro‐BNP in acute heart failure with preserved ejection fraction

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 888-899, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) continues to be an increasingly common health problem associated with a high mortality rate. Elevated levels of Growth differentiation factor‐15 (GDF15) and N‐terminal pro‐brain natriuretic peptide (NT‐proBNP) are reportedly associated with poor clinical outcomes in a broad range of ...

Production, purification and crystallization of a trans-sialidase from Trypanosoma vivax [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Sialidases and trans-sialidases play important roles in the life cycles of various microorganisms. These enzymes can serve nutritional purposes, act as virulence factors or mediate cellular interactions (cell evasion and invasion).

Infused Tiger Nut and Almond Nut Crunchy Snacks Enhanced the Nutritional Value and Antioxidant Activity in High‐Fat Diet Fed Rat

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Crunches were produced from formulations of almond nuts and tiger nuts (AN–TN) for the plausible management of commodity disease of obese condition. The produced AN–TN crunches showed high consumers acceptability, phenolic, and amylopectin contents. In addition, formulated percentages of AN–TN crunches when fed to high‐fat diet (HFD) fed rats led to ...

Immunological Evaluation of Recent MUC1 Glycopeptide Cancer Vaccines

open access: yesVaccines, 2016
Aberrantly glycosylated mucin 1 (MUC1) is a recognized tumor-specific antigen on epithelial cell tumors. A wide variety of MUC1 glycopeptide anti-cancer vaccines have been formulated by many research groups.

Rheological Behavior of Food Emulsions Mixed with Saliva: Effect of Oil Content, Salivary Protein Content, and Saliva Type [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper, we studied the effect of saliva on the rheological properties of ß-lactoglobulin- and lysozyme-stabilized emulsions, prepared at pH¿=¿6.7 in relation to variation of emulsions- and saliva-related parameters.

Nonenzymatic glycosylation of human serum albumin and its effect on antibodies profile in patients with diabetes mellitus

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2017
Albumin glycation and subsequent formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) correlate with diabetes and associated complications.Human Serum Albumin (HSA) was modified with D-glucose for a 40 day period under sterile conditions at 37°C. Modified samples along with native HSA (unmodified) were analyzed for structural modifications by UV and ...
