A Comprehensive Analysis of the T and B Lymphocytes Repertoire Shaped by HIV Vaccines

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
The exploitation of various human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) vaccines has posed great challenges for the researchers in precisely evaluating the vaccine-induced immune responses, however, the understanding of vaccination response suffers from ...

Core Structure of gp41 from the HIV Envelope Glycoprotein [PDF]

open access: yesCell, 1997
The envelope glycoprotein of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) consists of a complex of gp120 and gp41. gp120 determines viral tropism by binding to target-cell receptors, while gp41 mediates fusion between viral and cellular membranes. Previous studies identified an alpha-helical domain within gp41 composed of a trimer of two interacting ...

Liquid–Liquid Phase Separation in Viral Infection and Immunology

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2026.
LLPS organizes viral replication and antiviral immunity. Viruses hijack LLPS to form replication factories and evade immune sensors, while hosts assemble LLPS‐driven signaling hubs (e.g., MAVS, RIG‐I, and SGs) to amplify interferon responses. Targeting these condensate interfaces offers novel therapeutic strategies against infectious diseases ...

TLR10 Senses HIV-1 Proteins and Significantly Enhances HIV-1 Infection

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play a crucial role in innate immunity and provide a first line of host defense against invading pathogens. Of the identified human TLRs, TLR10 remains an orphan receptor whose ligands and functions are poorly understood.

HIV-1 Envelope Protein gp41: An NMR Study of Dodecyl Phosphocholine Embedded gp41 Reveals a Dynamic Prefusion Intermediate Conformation [PDF]

open access: yesStructure, 2014
Human immunodeficiency viral (HIV-1) fusion is mediated by the viral envelope gp120/gp41 complex (ENVelope glycoprotein). After gp120 shedding, gp41 is exposed and elicits membrane fusion via a cascade of conformational changes. In contrast to prefusion and postfusion conformation, little is known about any intermediate conformation.

Generating Ultra‐Fast Protein trans‐Splicing of a Cysteine‐Less and Semisynthetic Split Intein for Chemical Protein Labeling

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 6, 27 March 2026.
Protein trans‐splicing (PTS) by split inteins is a powerful approach for protein semisynthesis to generate proteins with site‐specific modifications that are difficult or impossible to introduce biosynthetically. Here, the authors report the first ultra‐fast and cysteine‐less split intein with a sufficiently short N‐terminal fragment amenable to ...

Nano‐ and Micro‐Sized Solid Materials Used as Antiviral Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 26, 30 March 2026.
Due to the rise of viral infections in humans and possible viral outbreaks, the use of nano‐ or micro‐sized materials as antiviral agents is rapidly increasing. This review explores their antiviral properties against RNA and DNA viruses, either as a prevention or a treatment tool, by delving into their mechanisms of action and how to properly assess ...

The development of HIV vaccines targeting gp41 membrane-proximal external region (MPER): challenges and prospects

open access: yesProtein & Cell, 2018
A human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) vaccine which is able to effectively prevent infection would be the most powerful method of extinguishing pandemic of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Antiviral properties of two trimeric recombinant gp41 proteins [PDF]

open access: yesRetrovirology, 2006
Abstract Background As it is the very first step of the HIV replication cycle, HIV entry represents an attractive target for the development of new antiviral drugs. In this context, fusion inhibitors are the third class of anti-HIV drugs to be used for treatment, in combination with nucleoside analogues and ...
