The hedgehog signaling network

American Journal of Medical Genetics, Part A, 2003
AbstractIn the hedgehog signaling network, mutations result in various phenotypes, including, among others, holoprosencephaly, nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome, Pallister‐Hall syndrome, Greig cephalopolysyndactyly, Rubinstein‐Taybi syndrome, isolated basal cell carcinoma, and medulloblastoma. Active Hedgehog ligand is double lipid modified with a C‐

Communicating with Hedgehogs

Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology, 2005
Signalling by secreted Hedgehog (Hh) proteins is important for the development of many tissues and organs. Damage to components of the Hh signal-transduction pathway can lead to birth defects and cancer. The Hh proteins are distributed in tissues in a gradient, and cells respond to different thresholds of Hh with distinct responses.

Geriatric Hedgehogs

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Exotic Animal Practice, 2020
African hedgehogs are susceptible to aging changes like those of other small exotic mammals. Common conditions of the geriatric hedgehog include heart disease, chronic renal disease, and dental/periodontal disease. Hedgehogs are unique in that they have an unusually short life span and a propensity for neoplasia.
