Renovating Neural Networks With Viral‐Mediated Gene Transfer From A Tissue Contacting Matrix Mimic

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Fmoc‐DDIKVAV self‐assembling peptidemediated delivery of AAV‐BDNF significantly enhances neuroprotection in the striatum of a mouse model compared with AAV‐BDNF injection alone. This synergistic integration of biomaterial scaffolding and gene therapy holds substantial promise for slowing the progression of neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington ...

Characterization of an Inhibitor of Neuronal Plasminogen Activator Released by Heart Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
A basic understanding of growth cone dynamics and developmental events involving growth cones requires an understanding of the function and regulation of molecules associated with and released by growth cones. Rat sympathetic neurons in culture release a

Cardenolide‐Engineered Extracellular Vesicles Augment Drug Uptake and Cytotoxicity in Non‐small Cell Lung Cancer Cells

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Cardenolide‐functionalized extracellular vesicles enable targeted delivery of the chemotherapeutic doxorubicin to A549 lung cancer cells by binding Na+/K+‐ATPase, which is overexpressed in these cells. Surface‐modified, drug‐loaded EVs exhibit enhanced cytotoxicity compared to unmodified EVs and free drug, suggesting this system may lower the effective

Chondroitin sulfates and their binding molecules in the central nervous system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Chondroitin sulfate (CS) is the most abundant glycosaminoglycan (GAG) in the central nervous system (CNS) matrix. Its sulfation and epimerization patterns give rise to different forms of CS, which enables it to interact specifically and with a ...

Modified cytoskeletal and extracellular matrix composition in the canine testis after long‐acting gonadotropin‐releasing hormone agonist deslorelin treatment

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Long‐acting gonadotropin‐releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists are commonly used for fertility control in male dogs. Their effect on testicular histomorphology has not been clarified. Objectives To elucidate the mechanisms underlying androgen withdrawal in response to long‐acting GnRH agonist deslorelin 4.7 mg treatment on testicular ...

Immunotherapeutic Targeting of GPC3 in Pediatric Solid Embryonal Tumors

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2019
Glypican 3 (GPC3) is a heparan sulfate proteoglycan and cell surface oncofetal protein which is highly expressed on a variety of pediatric solid embryonal tumors including the majority of hepatoblastomas, Wilms tumors, rhabdoid tumors, certain germ cell ...

Heparan Sulfate: A Ubiquitous Glycosaminoglycan with Multiple Roles in Immunity

open access: yes, 2015
Heparan sulfate (HS) is a highly acidic linear polysaccharide with a very variable structure. It is ubiquitously expressed on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix and basement membrane of mammalian tissues.

Endothelial bound lipoprotein lipase (LpL) depletion in hypoalbuminemia results from decreased endothelial binding, not decreased secretion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Hypertriglyceridemia in nephrotic (NS) and Nagase analbuminemic rats (Analb) results from reduced triglyceride clearance. NS and Analb have reduced or absent albumin, reduced plasma oncotic pressure (π), but Analb lack proteinuria. The heparin releasable

Tau‐targeting active immunotherapy slows progression and reduces pathology in mouse models of tauopathy

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
The efficacy of the novel anti‐tau active immunotherapy, p5555kb, was tested using two mouse models of tau pathology. p5555kb inoculation increased the survival rate and reduced tau pathology in tau‐overexpressing P301L mice and decreased tau seeding in the brains of C57BL/6 mice injected with human‐purified Alzheimer's disease tau.

Functional Cellular Anti-Tumor Mechanisms are Augmented by Genetic Proteoglycan Targeting. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
While recent research points to the importance of glycans in cancer immunity, knowledge on functional mechanisms is lacking. In lung carcinoma among other tumors, anti-tumor immunity is suppressed; and while some recent therapies boost T-cell mediated ...
