Epigenetic treatment of solid tumours. A review of clinical trials [PDF]
Epigenetic treatment has been approved by regulatory agencies for haematological malignancies. The success observe in cutaneous lymphomas represents a proof of principle that similar results may be obtained in solid tumours. Several agents that interfere

Histone posttranslational modifications (PTMs) modulate several eukaryotic cellular processes, including transcription, replication, and repair. Vast arrays of modifications have been identified in conventional eukaryotes over the last 20 to 25 years ...

Characterization of Histone Deacetylase Mechanisms in Cancer Development
Over decades of studies, accumulating evidence has suggested that epigenetic dysregulation is a hallmark of tumours. Post-translational modifications of histones are involved in tumour pathogenesis and development mainly by influencing a broad range of ...

Gcn5 histone acetyltransferase is present in the mitoplasts
ABSTRACTIn Saccharomyces cerevisiae the Lysine-acetyltransferase Gcn5 (KAT2) is part of the SAGA complex and is responsible for histone acetylation widely or at specific lysines. In this paper we report that GCN5 deletion differently affects the growth of two strains.

Stochastic nucleosome disassembly mediated by remodelers and histone fragmentation [PDF]
We construct and analyze monomeric and multimeric models of the stochastic disassembly of a single nucleosome. Our monomeric model predicts the time needed for a number of histone-DNA contacts to spontaneously break, leading to dissociation of a non-fragmented histone from DNA.

Lysine succinylation (Ksucc) is an evolutionarily conserved and widespread post-translational modification. Histone acetyltransferase 1 (HAT1) is a type B histone acetyltransferase, regulating the acetylation of both histone and non-histone proteins. However, the role of HAT1 in succinylation modulation remains unclear.

Protein acetylation in archaea, bacteria, and eukaryotes [PDF]
Proteins can be acetylated at the alpha-amino group of the N-terminal amino acid (methionine or the penultimate amino acid after methionine removal) or at the epsilon-amino group of internal lysines.

Class-switch DNA recombination (CSR) is central to the antibody response, in that it changes the immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH) constant region, thereby diversifying biological effector functions of antibodies. The activation-induced cytidine deaminase

Sas3-mediated histone acetylation regulates effector gene activation in a fungal plant pathogen
Effector proteins are secreted by plant pathogens to enable host colonization. Typically, effector genes are tightly regulated, have very low expression levels in axenic conditions, and are strongly induced during host colonization.

Activation of AMP-activated protein kinase by metformin induces protein acetylation in prostate and ovarian cancer cells [PDF]
AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is an energy sensor and master regulator of metabolism. AMPK functions as a fuel gauge monitoring systemic and cellular energy status.
