Pentadecylidenemalonate 1b, a simplified analogue of anacardic acid, was identified as the first mixed activator/inhibitor of histone acetyltransferases (HATs). It potentiates PCAF HAT activity while inhibiting those of p300/CBP and recombinant CBP.
