From Studio to Rehab: A Debilitating Form of Anti-HMGCR Myopathy

open access: yesCureus, 2023
Immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy is a subtype of immune-mediated myopathy associated with or without statin use. Statins, or HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, are the most prescribed medications for dyslipidemia. The statin-associated myopathic syndromes range from asymptomatic elevations in creatine kinase to severe debilitating muscle weakness with ...

Identification of immune‐infiltrated and stroma‐enriched subtypes in HER2+ breast cancer

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 3, June 2026.
Integrative profiling identifies five immune–stromal microenvironment subtypes in HER2+ breast cancer. An immune‐infiltrated subtype shows robust immune activation and favourable survival. A stroma‐dominant subtype exhibits ECM remodelling and poorer prognosis.

HMGCR is differentially expressed in central nervous system metastasis in human breast cancer.

open access: yes, 2023
Metastasis to the brain occurs in a significant fraction of patients with breast cancer (1-3). We mined published RNA-sequencing and microarray data (4, 5) to compare primary and metastatic tumor transcriptomes for the discovery of genes associated with ...

Ferroptosis in breast cancer: From adipocyte–immune–iron regulation to therapeutic application

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Ferroptosis in breast cancer is regulated by an integrated adipocyte–immune–iron network rather than by tumour‐intrinsic pathways alone. Adipocyte‐derived lipid substrates and redox metabolites, immune‐cell‐mediated cytokine signalling and iron‐dependent oxidative stress collectively shape a dynamic ferroptosis ecosystem that can shift tumours towards ...

Microalgae Oil Attenuates Liver Fat Deposition in NAFLD via Modulation of Anti‐Lipogenic Genes and Insulin Signaling Pathways in HFD Mice

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
Dietary microalgae oil might reverse hepatic lipid deposition in a mouse model of fatty liver. This intervention significantly improves the overall fatty liver condition by reducing lipid accumulation and simultaneously restoring insulin sensitivity. ABSTRACT Non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a leading cause of liver‐related mortality and ...

Schematic illustration of the role of UBIAD1 in sterol-accelerated degradation of HMGCR.

open access: yes, 2019
Sterols induce ER-anchored Insig to bind HMGCR, which is ubiquitinated by Insig-associated E3 ubiquitin ligase (gp78, Trc8, or RNF145), leading to the degradation of HMGCR. In contrast to WT UBIAD1 that is efficiently transported to Golgi from ER.

Effect of Arabica Coffee Husk on Plasma Lipids and Obesity on Albino Rats

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
Feeding on a high‐fat diet supplemented with Arabica coffee husks (CH) for 8 weeks led to an improvement in plasma lipids and adipose tissues in rats compared to the high‐fat diet. ABSTRACT Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases.

3-Hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase variants strongly associated with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and diabetes mellitus risk in a Taiwanese population: A Mendelian randomization study

open access: yesTzu Chi Medical Journal
Objectives: 3-Hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR) is a rate-limiting enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis. The common HMGCR variants are associated with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels.

Artificial Sweeteners and Autoimmune Diseases: Insights From Integrative Bioinformatics and Mendelian Randomization

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study provides a novel molecular perspective on the role of AS in ADs development. We identified a positive association between artificially sweetened cereal intake and ADs risk and revealed multiple pathogenic mechanisms involving apoptosis, inflammatory signaling, immune activation, and gut microbiota dysbiosis.

The sexual dimorphism in locomotor activity is disrupted in hmgcr mutant.

open access: yes, 2013
a) Flies homozygous for a P element inserted in the 3′ region of the hmgcr gene (hmgcr11635/hmgcr11635) do not exhibit a sexually dimorphic start/stop number.
