Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Epigenetic and antitumor effects of platinum(IV)-octanoato conjugates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We present the anticancer properties of cis, cis, trans-[Pt(IV)(NH3)2Cl2(OA)2] [Pt(IV)diOA] (OA = octanoato), Pt(IV) derivative of cisplatin containing two OA units appended to the axial positions of a six-coordinate Pt(IV) center.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Amino Acid Patterns that Determine Antihyperuricemic Activity of Peptides: Identification and Predictive Analysis

open access: yesТехника и технология пищевых производств
Peptides offer a promising analogue to synthetic drugs in treating hyperuricemia. This article introduces reliable amino acid patterns that cause the inhibitory xanthine oxidase (CSR) activity of peptides.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Flaxseed Extract Can Modulates Apoptotic Genes to Promote Cell Death in Breast Cancer Cells [PDF]

open access: yesMiddle East Journal of Cancer
Background: Breast cancer is a multifactorial malignancy with uncertain treatment outcomes, making its treatment challenging. Balanced level of genes expression, including BAX, BCL2L1 (bcl-xl) and BCL-2 are needed to regulate apoptosis pathway in cancers.
