Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Targets, 2012
Depression is associated with inflammation, Th1 and Th17 responses, oxidative and nitrosative stress (O&NS), autoimmune responses against neoantigenic determinants, and neuroprogression (i.e., neurodegeneration, impaired plasticity and reduced neurogenesis).

Anti-IL-1 Activity of Peptide Fragments of IL-1 Family Proteins
Peptides, 1998A series of peptides containing retro-tuftsin- and tuftsin-like motifs from IL-1 proteins inhibits IL-1-induced IL-2 production and reduces the humoral immune response, thus supporting our hypothesis that tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg)-IL-1 competition depends on the presence of such motifs in IL-1 proteins.

IL-1 Receptor Accessory Protein Is an Essential Component of the IL-1 Receptor
The Journal of Immunology, 1998Abstract The recently described IL-1R accessory protein (IL-1R AcP) interacts with IL-1β and the IL-1 type-IR (IL-1RI), but an essential requirement for IL-1R AcP in IL-1 signaling in vitro has not been established and its role in vivo has not been examined.

Species-specific binding of IL-1, but not the IL-1 receptor antagonist, by fibroblasts
Cytokine, 1994Our laboratory previously reported that bovine thymocytes and fibroblasts proliferated only in response to bovine IL-1, whereas proliferation of murine thymocytes was augmented equally well by murine, human, and bovine IL-1. In this study, we used direct and competitive receptor binding assays to determine whether differential binding of homologous ...

The cytokine interleukin (IL)-1 plays important roles in peripheral and central inflammation via the actions of two ligands IL-1 alpha and IL-1beta that bind to the IL-1 type I receptor (IL-1RI) and trigger identical responses. However, some recent evidence suggests that IL-1alpha and IL-1beta may have differential actions in the CNS.

Abstract IL-1 pretreatment prolongs survival in lethal infection in normal and in neutropenic mice. We investigated whether this protection occurs by interference with deleterious cytokine effects. The effect of IL-1 pretreatment on concentrations of IL-1 alpha, IL-1 beta, IL-6, and TNF-alpha circulating in vivo and the ex vivo ...
